I’ve tried messing with these types so many times. So much more difficult then one would think. Knowing your tracks though, excited to see it

My "main" society (the one I'm most invested in) plays ONLY RCR and lidar courses. As I've got more into this society (I did the 52 wk schedule,) I've come to sort of have issues with so many fictional courses in the game that previously I would have LOVED. It's been an interesting transition. Don't get me wrong, I am still SO impressed with what these guys do, and many of them DO still have proper strategic and playable courses as well as the super impressive eye candy. But yeah, even just multiple elevation changes have begun to bug me a bit! I've come to the point where I personally would label the vast majority as "fantasy" courses. But that's just me. I say all this, to bring it back to your course here, to say I love the look of your course. It is indeed a challenge and a real skill to just put out a "genuine" and real to life golf course. This looks really nice, good job. Sorry for my little sermon just wanted to see there are people out there who ready appreciate what you're trying to do here

Thank you LKeet6 - it's very different to what I usually do and whilst I don't tend to go big on crazy elevation with my courses, I definitely lean heavily into the big visuals as a way to support the design. I'd argue Kaiuma, Greenstone and Marlette are based on real courses with strategy very much ahead of the visuals, but certainly more toward the fantasy end of the spectrum. This was always very different from the outset though and I very much enjoyed coming up with 'real' looking holes and limiting the design crutches to just one river and a lake ( Trayys). It certainly won't be the last time I put out a course like this though. Thank you for the kind comments

It certainly won't be the last time I put out a course like this though. Thank you for the kind comments I definitely remember marlette, I've played it when it came out and then on tour, and I've definitely played kaiuma too, think I can remember it. Both very good courses And I agree, as I alluded to, many are still fairly realistic in terms of play and strategy; I'm just very "harsh/picky" in terms of what I regard as "realistic." I think the main reason for this is that, as well as always appreciating a bit of minimalist class, my society is basically tst BUT with NO loft box usage! And playing this way really brings back the more simple and realistic courses, gives them their teeth again. And although it's not realistic how straight we all shoot, playing like this does show you the genius of real courses. I'm definitely going to give your course a go, might go and do so shortly! And I'll look out for you doing another course like this. My little bit of "advice/request" is that 2-3 exaggerated holes per course are fine! You see those in some of the most famous courses in the world. An island green, an exaggerated elevation, a heavy dogleg, a large and elaborate flower bed, a section of holes with water everywhere, cliffs/mountains, retaining walls, etc etc. When they're only on a few holes and, even more skillfully, still fit in naturally with the course, that's what makes it feel memorable and special, to me. Anyway, I'm crap in the designer, so I can't really give advice! But this idea of yours definitely appeals to me, so was just adding my thoughts. I'm off to try your course

Mate, this course is absolute class. You've nailed what you were trying to do.
I actually think this plays close to a championship course! It would certainly be a brute of a member's course! It has good length and the hole layouts and greens especially are excellent and tricky.
I did play on my ultra sim settings, so maybe would be "easy," on tour, but I see so many complaints about courses being tricked up on tour, so even if people went super low on this, everyone would feel they had earned whatever score they got.
Anyway, LOVED the water around holes 6-8, loved the textures, hole layouts were great, greens were great. Look was minimalist perfection. The short par 4 15th is a great hole. VERY hard to attack (would've been suicide on my settings and the wind I had) and then had a downward flop that ran away from the hole and stopped me getting my easy birdie.
My only "note" is to keep trying to perfect that art of making memorable views and holes whilst keeping it minimal/realistic.
I knew I was going to like it based off your aims and pics, but you exceeded my expectations. This course deserves attention.

Thanks! Really appreciate the detailed comments and glad you enjoyed it. Minimalism was a lot of fun here and yeah, definitely still a few bits to work on. 15 was a bit forced for sure and whilst I like the idea (people knowing my back catalogue of courses will recognise that this is my own personal template hole lol). I definitely think it's toward the tricky end, but I'm a crap player, soooooo... Just realised this is still the WIP thread - there's a release one here: tgctours.proboards.com/thread/21785/hollingbourne
