I gotta be honest, I’m really surprised no one has posted anything (at least not that I’ve seen) about Royal Melbourne. I’ve been watching the Presidents Cup a lot this week mostly so I could see as much of the course as possible. That place looks absolutely astonishing. The scale, the textures, the curving fairways, the bunkers, green surrounds, and the greens are just mind blowing. Every aspect of the course is just so intruiging and I could watch these guys play here every single week.
I think what I love the most is the greens and bunkers which is probably fairly obvious. The subtly of the strategy is so awesome too and the line between being in a great spot versus a terrible one is so extremely thin. The green contours and bunker placement dictate your tee shot so much and puts such a huge emphasis on angles. And then when you have firm and fast conditions it just extrapolates that factor so much more. That’s the way golf should be in my opinion. It’s such a one of a kind place but I wish there were more courses like Royal Melbourne.
That’s my two cents for anyone interested haha. Curious if anyone else has any thoughts while they’ve been watching. I think there’s so much to learn from Alister Mackenzie and Royal Melbourne and I know those who create courses in game can take a lot from both to apply to future designs.
Golf is awesome!

Found a cool article from TheFriedEgg. Talks a lot about the ideals of Royal Melbourne and the playing conditions and strategy it provides. It weaves that into how it creates the best golf to watch and play. thefriedegg.com/royal-melbourne-annual-tournament/

Just an awesome course. Haven’t seen much of it but love everything that I have watched. I think we had it in game at one point but didn’t manage to play it, unfortunately. Here’s hoping there’s a backed up version somewhere...
