I think it was the 13th par 5? Tee shot onto fairway, had a quick look at approach and thought “well at worst it’s in the sand”. Hit my shot only to realise when the ball came down with a splash that water and bunkers merged. My own fault for not having a better look I guess but geezo man...wasn’t obvious to my eye when I zoomed in quickly on my approach. First round I played pretty well, second round I played immediately after and lost it, boredom struck!! Gonna copy and paste that last sentence for next week...good luck all.

Practiced this course and am not sure what to say. I've played golf in Arizona where they are truly desert courses, where if you miss the fairway you are in the desert. Where there is little to no light or deep rough. They are a challenge but the difference is the courses are cut to incorporate the desert into the beauty of the course. This course is basically fairways and sand. That in itself isn't necessarily bad, just stay on the fairway, right? Not so fast.
Even if you hit the fairway, there are many holes where you just run out of fairway and thus even if you hit a great 95% driver shot, into a cross wind where it comes to rest on the last blade of grass before the fairway merges into the sand, you are suddenly left with a 220+ yard second shot. I do believe I even saw a 564 yard par 4?? It is one thing if you have that yardage with a large elevation change to help but nope, flat fairway. In the round I practiced I ended up 50 yards short with two drivers into the wind.
And after all that, if you do make it on the green, just about every putt over 15 feet requires a grid or more of of aiming due to the massive breaks.
I'm sure the elites will shoot there -12, -14s on the course. I may play this, I may not. I just don't find a lot about this course appealing or enjoyable. Golf should be at least somewhat enjoyable, right? This course after about the 6th hole it really felt like it was more work than fun. I shot a -8 in the high winds, which I guess I should be happy about but really there is nothing about this course that really makes me wanna give this a go, as I feel it will be more an exercise in frustration and futility.

Very unique course which I really enjoyed (hopefully my first top 5, as well, but who knows this early in the week). I don't post in the forums normally but I'm anticipating a tidal wave of criticism, just thought I'd throw a compliment out there to the designer!

I just felt that the design, plus the conditions and the fact I think things were tricked up a little bit unnecessarily, it made what might have been an enjoyable experience, not so enjoyable.
I do think it can be scored on because if you miss the fairway by rolling through it, chances are you are going to get a really nice lie in the sand which would be much better than heavy rough, with no lips to worry about. I had more than one hole where I was using a 1 iron and hit the green with no problem. Had it been heavy rough I never would have had a chance.
To each their own!

These US Open type courses and setting do get tiresome to play so often. The course would have been fine but feels like I’ve played it 10 times already. You know when you land on the only reasonable spot on the green but still have an 80ft putt or chip

My biggest gripe about the course is that the greens are so elevated and severe that it doesn't really offer much room for variety or creativity in the short game. I am a guy who normally plays a lot more bump and run touch shots than other players around most courses but I have had no choice but to flop most of my shots here after missing the green and rolling 5 feet downhill into a bunker lie.
Overall though it's a fine enough test. The breaks are challenging. I missed several putts in the 8-12 foot range, but had my chances on them.

I may be biased because I'm on PC but I love seeing your course on here Justin (: From what I have already read and what I imagine has yet to come...there will be much criticism. I had fun in my first two rounds and sit at -21 at the cut which I'm not unhappy about at all. This track is tough as hell =P Good luck to everyone!

After playing the tournament of my life to win last week and get promoted, I come out with a flub -5 to debut. Go figure. -9 in those winds in round 2 puts me at -14 which could be close to the cut number, but we shall see.

Not on this tour anymore, but thought I'd play along just for fun, as I like links/desert courses, but holy sandtrap. It's no wonder admin won't turn off certain aids (aiming reticule, lie grid) with diabolical creations like this. 😉
Just for s&g, I think I'll play a round TST and USE style just to humiliate myself.

-8 and -3 for -11 at the halfway mark. Think I may be a stroke short to make the cut, but I dunno... that R2 was pretty tough to get birdies, IMO. The (15th?) long par 4 on the back nine in round two is gonna have 0% GIR for the field methinks.

-9, -7, -7, -3... -26.
Mailed it in again on R4. Was tired, had a glass of wine and just got a bit disheartened / disinterested with the setup after doing ok for 3 rounds.
Can we please have a week of default conditions some time soon, just so, you know, we play the courses as intended?

-6,-6,-9,-7 for me. Missed so many putts by a hair in opening rounds. Not sure it’s enough to make the cut. Oh well, it keeps it exciting!

This is the type of setup we should have around here, I mean look how packed the leaderboard is, every stroke actually matters instead of the usual I missed a putt its over.. so whats all the whining about? Sure its hard but you are supposed to be the best players.
I enjoyed the first 2 rounds so much I may actually finish an event for the first time in who knows. Nice job bsmooth and coruler.
Good luck and may you all miss only slightly left
