I was thinking of adding a thin strip of light rough around parts of my mini golf course. It would still allow the player to use the putter but would make calculating the weight difficult. I'm wanting to make the holes look more like real golf holes and a bit of light rough around the edge or in areas that aren't in play may help. So what do you think? Before After

The first hole of the mini golf course is complete, I've added wire fencing to the border for a better bounce. The course won't be designed for aces on every hole and I'm hoping to bring a bit of strategy into it.

Second hole of the mini golf course is complete and it has a couple of options off the tee. If you choose to cross the bridge be wary of the slope at the bunker as it may drag the ball onto the wrong path and into the water. If you decide to go left and avoid the water your ball may find the bunker near to the hole.

The 3rd is a longer hole where the player will have a choice of routes for their lay up shot. I've still got to work on the sculpting near the hole to even up the difficulty of both routes. I think an interesting concept to this course will be the ability to change the firmness of the bunkers. You could make them faster for an easier round or slow them down for more than a challenge. I've been coming up with new ideas to make the process easier. It'll probably be a bit different from other mini golf courses with more of a focus on surfaces and sculpting and less objects in play.

An idea I thought about trying out was making a green near the pin then trying the extended fringe method for the rest of the hole's surface. This would give the hole the appearance of a real golf hole, with the fringe acting like a fairway, but I'm not sure how it would interact with the fairway surfaced bunkers.

Another two holes done on the mini golf course, first up is the short downhill 4th hole which is a good chance of a hole in one. The pin on the 5th is situated behind a cluster of rocks and plants, there is a narrow route through or you can go right and hope you hit the slope in the right place.

I forgot to post this picture of the 2nd hole, you can hit a driver to a narrow piece of fairway to save a few yards for your second shot. You can then either go for the green in two or lay up for a pitch onto the green. The 3rd is a dogleg right which slopes downhill from tee to green with a valley between the landing area and green.

The 6th hole of the Wunderpar mini golf course is nearing completion. The weight of the tee shot will be important, too heavy and you could be playing from the bunker. I've decided to make the holes a mix of par 2's, 3's and 4's with the aim of giving the course a par of 50-odd.

Mini golf contest There's a link to the contest that was ran a few months back, it was a varied field with different styles of courses. One thing I will say is don't expect the ball to bounce off objects or walls like they do IRL.

The 7th has the old 'water in between the tee and the pin' scenario. Get the weight and line wrong and the water does it's job, the right weight will get you closer but how close?

The 8th hole of the Wunderpar mini golf course is complete, and is probably the most challenging green yet on the course. Your ball will have to negotiate the narrow bending path before hitting the slopes and hoping the momentum is just right to get close. I've playtested the course in different settings and it's good to see it plays differently when the firmness and green speeds are changed. I'm going to be concentrating solely on the Wunderpar mini golf course just now, as I have no motivation to design a full sized course at this time.
