I am certain this must have been asked before, but it concerns me now because I have acquired 3 demerits because I totally forgot that the tourneys here are different to the real world, which always finish on a Sunday. Yes, it is my fault & nobody else's but I am now minded to ask why it is done this way please? Personally, my week ends on a Sunday with Monday being the first day of the new week - and because work has been crazy hectic recently I honestly thought I would have the time to finish on Sunday - it had been a while since I had teed it up, and I utterly forgot that things end on the wrong day here. So - can someone please explain to me the thinking behind this?

I am no admin here...nor do I know the answer to your question but I can give you my input. There is a rule in place that cut rounds need to be in by sometime on Thursday (I believe). I would assume a majority of people work during the week so by splitting the weekend you can do your cut rounds on Sunday and then your other two rounds on Saturday.

This ^ For players that can only find time on weekends, it offers an opportunity to get your early rounds in on a weekend day. If tournaments started on Monday, weekend-only players could not get early rounds in before the cut on Thursday.

It's perfect the way it is. I use the same schedule for my society. Play one round each on Sunday. Get two more during the week then finish both on Saturday.
If I travel I plan ahead. Although TST not making the cut often helps make planning easy 😬

Society organizers can't change the week long tournament schedules to start and end on different days. From my understanding you can't have a tournament that starts, say, on a Thursday and ends the following Wednesday. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You can make your start end anyway you want in societies.

Having our events cross over two weekends is 1A. 1B is giving me Sunday to finalize the week on the site which is a day I work 95% of the year (I finalize from work). It's the optimal schedule for most and for us as admin as well.

It's the optimal schedule for most and for us as admin as well. So now I know. They are the rules, and it is what it is. To my mind, it makes no difference at all to convenience and if anything it is more inconvenient than anything else (see the 3 demerits for not finishing - I work for myself, got busy & tried to complete Sunday Morning to find it was all over) and in the real world all tournaments cut on Friday, Saturday is "moving day" and the weekend is where the money is. A weekend with one ending on the saturday & the next starting on the Sunday is just confusing for me - must be getting senile. Grumble over - I know know what the justification is, and even though I disagree 100% it is not my decision to make. I appreciate the candid response though.

It may be inconvenient for you but it is convenient for a lot of people which is why I don't think many people question it. I do understand how you are comparing this to the real world but this is a game in the end....
