After a horrendous tournament last week and having not played in 10 days I had no time to practice and just went right into it...needless to say I wasn’t playing smart and started -3 and was a grand total of about 1 inch away from double digit under par. I’ve never burned so many edges or had putts lip out as I did here. I knew I had to go low the 2nd round and played better but yet again I was left with what could have been. Shot -9 with several missed opportunities including a missed 6 footer and 11 footer for birdies in the last 5 holes to finish at the cut line...so I’m likely to miss it again

After getting promoted last week, it's my first time playing on this tour. Can't lie, I didn't particularly enjoy the course. Still played quite well regardless. -14, -6, -10, -12. Double bogey'd the 2nd on R2 so I was playing angry the rest of the round. A -42 total might get me a promotion mark on my first week so I'm satisfied anyway. Good luck all!

Great layout, only criticism is the fairways and greens need a collar of light rough as it’s pretty annoying rolling 2 inches off either and having a 64% lie. That said, I’m enjoying it so far. After missing the cut by one last week I decided to up my prep this week and play smarter. Have had a solid first round of -9 which could easily have been -13 as I parred a par 5 that was reachable in 2 and missed three birdie putts inside 10 feet due to getting the wrong side of the hole and leaving 3 feet of break downhill on those putts! Time for some practice before round 2 tomorrow Played a few practice rounds on same settings before commencing round 2 as part of a more measured approach, had a shocker and shot -5 despite a promising practice. That left me at -14 at the cut, probably going to miss by one. Either way, went ahead and played the last 2 rounds blind and free wheeled -21 over them. -35 IF I make the cut.

Probably irrelevant when people are shooting -17 in a round!

I made my first ever cut in a TGC event!!! Last season I had a blinding Q-School and somehow ended up in the PGA. However I was seldom able to play due to personal life goings on etc. This season I committed to playing more events but I was basically bottom 10 in the PGA event after event, relegated, then 2 missed cuts on European Tour (with a shameful DNF) but finally found some form! A steady -7 in R1 was topped by a strong -10 in R2. More steady golf ensued in R3 with a -8 before some stupidity and attempted bravado nonsense cost me for a -4 in R4. Whilst I was gutted with my R4, I reflected and I'm just pleased to make a cut and earn some TGC dollars. - 29, not bad for someone who only gets to play once a week And for all those who don't like the course, I thought it was a magnificent design that really makes the golfer think about their shots.

This course is brutal! Even when I was hitting safe shots I was constantly clipping trees and having to fade/draw around them. No easy shots or holes it felt like. Just a total grind. The clipping trees was BEYOND annoying. And, it happened everywhere. Beautiful course and I did love the risk/reward but the tree limbs a third of the way out on the fairway half the time made this course not favorited.

I really did not care for the course this week.
16 and 17 don’t make any sense to me from a design perspective. I get the short par 4 allure but the way that the 17th hole is designed where you basically have to hit an 8i or slice a driver is just absolutely silly. I don’t get the 16th either where you’re forced out to the left and even with a slice shot your clipping trees right off the Teebox there’s no good shot here since playing it out to the left and short leave your 200+ yards into a par 4.
The Xbox tempo decided to jump up and bite me in the 4th round as well. I’ve been playing all morning with 80% P/P and then of course on the par three 2nd hole where there’s water on the left I get a very fast into the lake.
I am convinced that this game recognizes hazards and adjusts your tempo to draw you towards them.
Couldn’t read a putt to save my life. Must have missed 5-7 putts from about 10-12’ just high or just low. Really frustrating.
Anyways. -30 total. On to the next week.

I remember the 17th. First round I layed up. Second round I sliced a driver into the bunker, knowing full well I'd end up with an easy birdie anyway by successfully hitting a 24 flop. The most difficult thing was getting it there. From a NON designer perspective, I had no problem with that hole. I have learned that the courses I enjoy at many times aren't favored by other designers. I'm more about the playability, variety, risk/reward, etc. Even the trees that were closely protecting the pins (and it was impossible to miss those too when going for the pin) I didn't have a big problem with. Take those damn tree limbs out of the way on five or six of the holes and it was a five star for me.

Honestly I did not have a major issue with placement for most of the trees as it related to shaping the shot...the 16th hole tee shot being the exception.
My biggest gripe was the shadow-covered greens. I find it to be so much more distracting and difficult to read breaks on courses that feature this many shadows when putting.
As for my rounds, a dismal -4 in the last round ruined my chance at anything good this week. Finished -32 for the tournament....so darn hard to piece together four great rounds.

See the shadows on the greens thing has never bothered me. I know this is a big taboo in the designer community but there’s shadows everywhere in real life.

They were MUCH worse in TGC 2 I think at times, those shadows are something you have to fight through, maybe take a little more time reading the greens, etc. It is very hard to put four great rounds together, that is for sure. You must be on Xbox lol.
