I have no skin in this game and have no idea who has beef with who & why, but I do find it curious that some people struggle so much with the difference between constructive criticism & genuine rudeness.
"The sculpting on these bunkers isn't very good/isn't as good as the top designers courses. Have you tried......"
"These bunkers look like they've been designed by an *add your own expletive laden insult*"
Statement 1 is just constructive criticism of your work. Something that almost all of us will have to deal with at some point in our lives. If you read/hear this statement and take it personally, perhaps designing isn't for you.
Statement 2 is personal abuse that you wouldn't get away with if you did it in real life, in the workplace or in public or whatever. So you shouldn't do it on the internet. It's not "banter" or "locker room talk" unless both sides are in on the joke btw
Going back in my box now....only popped in because the word "constructive" is misspelled in the thread title and it's been nagging away at me for 2 days. That's constuctive criticism btw

lessthanbread - I appreciate the sports analogy, but I genuinely don’t believe that the motivation for those jokes was rookie hazing. In fact, some of the biggest advocates for having an official rookie contest and fully supporting it are the veteran designers. We are very open to new people who want to create courses. All jokes aside, one of the comments on here that brightened my day was to hear one of the longest TGCT players and veteran designers say that the design community is the strongest he’s ever seen it. That sure doesn’t sound like “insiders” are a huge problem. Some people may not like me, but I believe I have played a mostly positive role in the building process, which I am very proud of. Those that TRULY know me, understand that building this community is something I care about. Absolutely true Eric. I probably went too hard into it from that standpoint. It is a fine line and I guess what I'm getting at is this community is a living, breathing thing and you build or break your reputation by how you react to certain situations. I'm not saying everyone should just go around bashing new designers' courses and it will be good for the community, but when it does happen, the designer can either use it to better themselves or let it get the best of them

Just delete this thread, it's obvious people missed the point here. It's not the jokes. I never said or thought my course was the greatest. I knew I would be judged, after all, it's a contest I ENTERED......
I took it personal. He purposely says my name wrong, he flipped from constructive review on one course, to dumpster fire roasts as soon as my course was even mentioned. And I'm not supposed to take that some kind of way? Now he claims he just wanted to lighten the mood, 40 mins in conveniently when my course is played. Mmmkk
And all the "got to have thick skin", "we all get our course blasted". I VOLUNTEERED MY FIRST COURSE FOR THE DUMPSTER FIRE SHOW. I'll say it in all caps so maybe, maybe, you can actually read it. In that context, it was hilarious. But when its a judge, turning your course into a roast for an audience, it isn't hilarious. At least not to me. Especially when we are bright eyes rookies looking for genuine feedback. If he can give that to others, but can't wait to roast mine, then I'll take it that way. This is the end, I'm done repeating myself. You'll read one page and just rush to reply, thinking I'm crying over having my course critiqued. It's whatever at this point....

And the rest of us took your post as a personal attack on a friend so we also had a right I guess to defend. When does the cycle end? The primary point? Send a PM that just says "Hey, maybe I am being a little sensitive here but your stream kinda hurt" and then lay it out and tell him your upset. He would reply and things would go along smoothly. The only reason to put it HERE is for attention and to stick it to someone. Then you don't even name names. It just seems very hypocritical and disingenuous.
You have EVERY right to be upset and to take it however you take it. And yes, Matt or Me or anyone else has a responsibility to say "I'm sorry. I will take your words to heart and try to mitigate my comments in the future. Please know it was not intended that way and I am truly sorry that it was not clear. That is my fault".
It's not the fact you were upset, it's the process. I personally look forward to more of your work and hope that these kinds of issues can, in the end bring people together more than draw lines in the proverbial sand.

My first contest course was properly played on stream by reebdoog and was softly roasted in the process. I appreciate that! I rewatched a couple of times and took all of the witty banter and broke it down into usable feedback, and along with all the other feedback I recieved from the other judges, I promptly incorporated it into my rookie contest course. Result, my latest publish came in as tour worthy. Now, remains to be seen if I make it past the first cut.. Point is, as as designer, we need to look beyond the surface, and take ALL criticism as a way to improve as we move forward. If you haven't given it a play, check out Mulligan Grove !! All feedback welcome.. tgctours.proboards.com/thread/20848/mulligan-grove-contest-course

Five or six holes of my course in one contest, don't remember which one, were played with a big fat "@!$# YOU" in the screen Context here is that Taste was butthurt when his course did not make it out of the group stage while Devon Rotary did. So he went, um, a bit overboard (?) roasting everyone else's course in that contest.

Ah yes, the good old days of Taste ... we need some more brutal honesty around here 😉 Five or six holes of my course in one contest, don't remember which one, were played with a big fat "@!$# YOU" in the screen.... Lovely Edit I found it: Hilarious. Mental, but hilarious.
