I am well on my way to publishing a beta version of my first Lidar build, and will call the beta CSGC2018. Crooked Stick is a high-end private club in Carmel Indiana just North of Indianapolis. It is one of Pete Dye's first designs and is probably best known for being the course where John Daly walked on as a last minute alternate and won the PGA Championship in 1991, but it has also hosted the 2009 USGA Senior Open (I was a volunteer worker there) and is in the rotation for the BMW Championship series. There is a TGC2 version by Dean Lowdon, which he ported over to TGC 2019, but it was done before Lidar was available. It is nice looking work, though. The course itself has six sets of tees, but TGC2019 only allows five, with 7516 from the tips. I have put in four pin positions, although it was pretty difficult to find then on some of Pete's roly-poly greens. I investigated to try and find the real pin positions for one of the tournaments above but came up empty. Here are some pix to whet your appetite: I am well along with playtesting the four pin positions under varying wind conditions and should be publishing the beta within a day or two.

Wow..this is the best news of the day i'm waitng for this by months!! About the ported one, you remember the name? Cause months ago i searched it, but can't find a real version of this course, just a losely based one...that honestly has actually nothing to do with the real one, named "Crooked Stick GC". There is some other one?

There is some other one? Ezzino, that one you found, Crooked Stick GC is in fact the one I was talking about that was ported by drlowdon from TGC 2. I tried to contact him about it but he has not been involved with TGCTours for more than a year and did not respond to my PM. The course you found is in fact the real layout, all the fairways, greens and traps are accurate for the time he built it, although some stuff was changed in 2016. I assume drlowdon had to improvise the terrain since Chadgolf's Lidar program was not available, but it is not a bad approximation. The "extra stuff" like the correct tree positions, houses, etc are what is not so accurate in his version. I have tried to make mine as close to real as possible.

Understood, thank you! Honestly i tried almost every course of this designer, but i can't find really accurate recreations, generally. I see the par, the global shape of the holes and the routing is always more or less correct, but almost always the shape of fairways, the greens and all the details are always quite different from the real courses. In this Crooked Stick, there is also a par 5 inverted with a par 4 in the Second nine holes, but it could be also the consequence of some renovation work, i should to make some study about the course to have a correct answer. I can't wait for your version, anyway. This course can be a real beast. It will be great!

Well. I played it. Mate..you are doing..no, you already did, an amazing work. Everything of the course is faithfully reported and recreated. Perfectly shaped. Nice looking. Trees, cartpaths, everything. Obviously the course is also beautiful to play. The only noticeable thing a bit different (looking at the maps I can check, I mean..so it can be just my fault, easily) is that the huge bunker of the hole 11 should be a bit less huge. Then, only if you are a maniac of perfection I could tell you something to slightly change (I mean just some trees missing..stupid things like this..but nothing of those little things are in play, in any case, so there is really no reason to tell you what they are ). You know..after my round I was reading here and there, just to learn something more about this course, so I discovered that this is the home course of Pete Dye. "Home" in the real sense of the word, cause he lives really near to the hole 18. But the funniest thing I discovered (I don't know if you already knew it, so I'll tell you) is that in the big pond of the hole 18, in the most distant part from the 18,if you check the satellite map, you can see a little island, more or less 50 feet wide. Reachable only swimming. Well..on this little island, there is just a mailbox, with the script "Club suggestion box". Anyway.. This will be a great RCR. You did an outstanding work. Really. Thank you P.S. : Just to give this information on my list, cause I can't find anything about it, do you know if and when in the course there has been renovation works of some kind (assuming that every work eventually has been made by Dye, I suppose)?

Ezzino thanks for the feedback. I am glad you enjoyed your round! You are right about the big trap on #11. Not an excuse at all, but I did not do the tracing out of the course features on Open Street Map which are downloaded to the plot with the terrain, that was done by a TGCTours member named Dank who initially thought about doing the Lidar design but then decided not to. He did the tracing before there were some changes made to the course in 2016 for the BMW Championship. I will modify that trap to look like the Google Earth picture from 2018. I did not know about the island - I will put it in. Thanks again for the feedback, you are an excellent TGCTours member!

OK Ezzino I redid the trap to show I take feedback well, see below I know it is not perfect, but with the way the designer works, putting those little grass spots in the right spots and sizes is very difficult. I also put in the little island, but there are no mailboxes or suggestion boxes in the designer so I just put a "Danger, Deep Water" sign there

But, before, I forgot to answer you, cause my intention was to tell you there was no need to feel almost sorry for that bunker. Even leaving it as it was, your course was ALREADY actually perfect. Now is just totally spot on You can be really proud of your work. And you should. Cause this will be a great venue to play tournaments. (and..thank you for your kind words. I know is not exactly true, but I like, really a lot, to be involved here, cause I realized that i really care about this tour and community, so..i try simply to do something useful as I can. That is not so much, probably, but at least I'm trying. The fact that this place is full of people I like, is just a reason more to care about the whole thing and to try to be supportive. Thanks again )

This is really just a bump. I have evaluated/implemented all the feedback I have gotten so far and it has been a while since any new posts. If I do not get any more, I will publish the finished course next week.

Definitely looking forward to the final version.
