Awesome course sir. Such a unique look but still completely and believably natural. Loved the layout too. Those short par 4s were absolutely devilish. Some of the sculpting around the elevated greens looked a bit manufactured how the drop offs just followed the shape of the green but that’s really it. I expect a high placement in the rookie challenge

That's a really interesting critique and something I hadn't considered. Will have a look at that for sure. Pleased you enjoyed your round here - still gutted you aren't able to finish yours in time as I reckon I'd have been saying similarly good things.
Great course! The bunkers at all the best landing areas off the tips made me make some hard choices for my tee shots. And Pinehurst has nothing on your turtleback greens!
Outstanding work; your attention to detail is excellent! You made it feel like I might be able to play this course, if only I could make my way to Nevada.
How did I make a twelve on a par five hole? It's simple - I missed a four foot putt for an eleven. - Arnold Palmer

Very nice course. If you can build them like that we will take all you can make. For a rookie designer its scary to see how you can improve on this. You can tell that a lot of hours went into this one.The time spent on smoothing and sculpturing is evident.Keep up the good work.A true winner in my book.

Thank you both, really appreciate the kind words. Love seeing people pick up on the little things as much as the big views. The hazard placement was actually the thing that took ages - getting them to play well whilst looking natural and not feeling like every fairway was pinched took a lot of playtesting. Pretty much every hole went through three or four remodels before they felt right. It's definitely the best I've done so far, so I look forward to getting the judges' feedback and seeing what to work on next. I've already got a few ideas for the next one kicking around, don't worry
Interestingly, Greenstone has just been scheduled for PGA - for my money, this plays tougher, so here's hoping it finds its way onto a tour somewhere.
Amazing playthrough of the course by Avakrak Gaming. Do give it a watch and a like / subscription if you can. Marlette is also now handicap rated, so even more worth a play than it was before
Slowly going through as many of the Rookie Competition course as I can. Just played Marlette Fells and really enjoyed it. Things I liked: Good amount of elevation changes, not to much nor too little; loved the waste bunkers along the fairway, beautifully sculpted and integrated; a good mix of different hole lengths and challenges; nicely planted but natural looking.
Things I liked less( and these are personal quibbles, others will not agree): The brown heavy rough is just too different from the fairway/green - a little unnatural to me; the lack of any light rough bordering fairway and green; the placement of such a short par four as the finishing hole.
Again, just my feelings.
I think this course is one of the ones to beat in the competition - nice job!
Played your course tonight Ben. Very well done - I can see this ending up on a tour somewhere..
As for my play, well, I pretty much hit just about every bunker you had in the fairways, though I did have this highlight..
Alby on #5..
I just published my course tonight - Mulligan Grove - give it a go...
Good luck in the contest. You have a solid course here!
Thanks, Jeff - video not loading for me at work, but I'll have a look this evening. Congrats on the alby - I've made a couple on 18 in practice, but never on the 5th. Glad you enjoyed and I'll give Mulligan a play this evening as well, well done on the publish!

Yep, all fair points - I decided not to play safe with this course and just made it as I wanted. I did go back and forth on 18 as a driveable four, but ended up deciding that I wanted to embrace the quirkiness of it. On my last three courses, I've finished on 2 long fours and a par five, so it had to be a bit different for my own sanity/development. The lack of light rough was also a choice - I played with it and hated the look, so went without and just made the fairways wider. Glad you enjoyed the round and best of luck with the contest!

Finally managed to watch the clip - as if you managed it on the toughest pin on that green as well! Great shot.
Also wanted to copy in a video playthrough from Mr Bellamy on YouTube - well worth a watch. He originally played it a couple of weeks ago and didn't enjoy it much - I wrote a comment suggesting not firing at the pins so much and he was kind enough to actually go and re-record. Totally wasn't expecting it and a properly class move; do give the channel a watch and a subscribe.
P.S. Marlette now at 2000 plays - thank you for all the rounds you have played here. Low round I have seen is -16, so it's doable
Thanks to ErixonStone for the playthrough and comments - really appreciate it and value the feedback. If anyone else has any more playthroughs or comments on the course, I'd love to see/hear them!
This is a really nice course and one that I could see myself playing again sometime soon. My favourite hole without a doubt is #4. I must have spent several minutes on that tee going through where I'd hit my tee shot if the pin was in different spots on the green (I'm weird, okay). Loved the colour pallete and the theme of the course and also the way I could often see multiple holes at a time (that really adds realism imo). I have ask, was the shortcut down an adjacent fairway on the par 5 14th or 15th (can't recall hole number) planned or a happy little accident? Either way it was perfectly executed, I bet most players wouldn't even spot it, great job.
Great course and I look forward to your next one.

Thanks, pal - appreciate it! 4 is definitely my favourite from a design standpoint for that exact reason as well - the idea was to make the green supere severe to reward the player who gets the best angle and considers laying back to a full lob wedge and I loved how that varied depending on where the pin was and which side of the fairway you go. For me, left is better for pin 1 as you can then aim a little right of the pin with a pitch/lofted lob wedge. Hitting driver over the bunkers right is a good play for the pin 3 (back left), although that's one of those pins you just have to go gently at as it all falls away off the back. For the two pins in the middle swale, it's utterly dependent on how you want to play it - releasing it down the slope, stopping it dead or using the backstop. Just a fun hole to play with.
I'm delighted you loved the ability to see multiple holes at a time, as that was my main aim when designing the course. When you next play, get up to the 8th green and just pan around - you can see 12 of the 18 holes from that one spot, which I thought was pretty cool. The idea came from a round I played at Swinley Forest, where the atmosphere was everything - you were totally alone on this stunning, natural course, but every now and then, you'd get a glimpse of a group of golfers on a different hole through the pines. I loved Mayday's Necedah for that atmosphere as well, so tried to put my own spin on it.
With 14, it was something that ohheycat noticed on one beta - it was WAY more open - so I tightened it up a lot so you shouldn't think it's doable, but HB tree physics means it can be if you hit your mark perfectly. That was a pain with shadows over the 13th as well... Definitely a happy little accident rather than anything intentional. It's not designed so you should have that as an obvious option, but if people want to find a loophole, that's cool - the course will punish you in many other areas, so nice to get one little win!
Currently working on a collab with Trayys which we're hoping to get out before we sign up for World Cup (fingers crossed) - hope you're planning on entering that, too?
