I did my last course with the help of topographic maps. I've tried to look up LIDAR, but have not had much luck bringing them up.I'm in the New England area by the way If that helps.

Maps alone won't quite get you the same accuracy, but if you have detailed topo maps + all sorts of pictures, videos, and flyovers then it really is all you need. Still lakes a lot longer than LiDAR does (I mean for making a course well, not the minimum <15hrs 'spline + import = done' LiDAR), unless you live in an area not covered by data or with pretty low data quality. What ares in New England are you looking for? When in doubt, try to find your place on the NOAA Digital Coast interagency site and see if they can point you to any data for the course/s you have in mind. coast.noaa.gov/inventory/ Any particular courses you were looking at? If it's for MA, be aware that the 2011 ARRA data set is pretty low quality: I nearly abandoned my recent completed course project (Black Rock) for this reason, and I know several others have picked up Eastward Ho and then dropped it citing significant data quality issues.

I actually have 12 holes of Eastward Ho completed, with all the elevation work done. All the holes are done as well with the last few just needing elevation and planting work done. It was done on PS4, but it would be nice If someone could use it, or I could just finish it and publish it. I literally have 2 manila folders stuffed with pictures and data on Eastward Ho. The other course that interested me were MT Hood in Malden, which has drastic elevation changes and Far Corners in Boxford. Can you use Lidar on the PS4 ?

Wow, you're pretty committed to making a good version of Eastward, and it's a worthy course indeed. Based on what people have said about the LiDAR data for it, you're probably making that course the 'correct way.'
LiDAR can't be used on PS4 unless we can figure out consoles' encryption codes (and then it will be patched within a few hours anyway...) as of now and for the foreseeable future it's PC only.
Mt Hood in particular looks pretty sweet, man does Boston have a good bunch of munis.

Its amazing what you can find online as far as data and photos, but I still think being there and especially playing the courses helps a great deal too. One thing I noticed about Eastward Ho is the driving distances vs where the sandtraps are placed. Many of the older courses were laid out when driving distances were shorter, so the sand traps are shorter as well and almost get taken out of play, except when wind is higher and brings them back in. Another thing is wind direction, where we along the coast are used to dealing with the constant east wind, which happens quite a bit. BTW If you ever need a hand on any of the course or even getting the data, I would be more than happy to help. I tend to be a tad anal when it comes to things like that, but it could be helpful. Plus your courses are very well done, so I might pick some useful info. That and people need to see some good courses from around here in the Northeast.

I'm currently working on a LIDAR of Ekwanok in VT, so that'll add another course to the NE. It'll also be my first go at a course outside of the southeast.

For Eastward, I'd wait until they have better data. The QL2 2014 data set does not cover the entire course: that is the main problem. I was also eyeing Kittansett and two other Brian Silva courses thanks to Black Rock (Cape Cod National has full 2014 coverage and Renaissance north of the city has a fantastic stretch of holes from 3-7 but only has the low quality 2011 ARRA set that had issues for both Black Rock and Eastward). CLV has 'claimed' Old Sandwich, Boston GC, Myopia, and Essex County Club so whenever he gets to some of those I have no doubt he'll do a really good job with them.
I'm kinda 'full' on courses at the moment but that's more my own doing than it is anything else. I only have 4 completed LiDAR courses and just broke ground on the 5th yesterday, plus I have 4 more waiting (Wolf Run [Indiana, closed in 2018], Manufacturers and Lulu [neighboring courses near Philly], and Ballyhack [wild course in Virginia]). All that said, if I pick up Eastward at some point you're exactly what I'd be looking for: someone to tell me where things just aren't right which should only make it more accurate.
