I just finished mapping Harbour Town in OSM... spent more than a few detailed hours on it. I've played this course a few times in real life, so I know a good bit about how the course looks and plays. Unfortunately I don't have tgc on PC so I can't do this one myself, but I would be more than willing to help anyone that wants to take this incredible course on!
Just lmk on this thread or you can dm me... whatever is easier

Boom. Get it done, preferably somebody with experience of flat bottom bunkering.

You can clearly see the changes done on the 5th green - this is lidar data from 2013 - and you see the old bunker area where the new green now. comes up. I notice that there is going to come new lidar data in 2020 in South Carolina, so this green will be much better with the new lidar data - but it is perhaps a year from now before it is available.

I thought there was more recent Lidar data taken in 2016-2017? Maybe I’m wrong... I dont know much about what is good Lidar and what isn’t. They did do a renovation a few years ago so it would make sense that the 2013 data would be off on holes like the 5th. However they only did the renovation on the 2nd, 5th, and 16th holes and it mostly was on bunkering (they did move the green on the 5th), so the 2013 Lidar shouldn’t be so incredibly off throughout the entire course. Here’s a article talking about what they did: www.linksmagazine.com/renovations_at_this_weeks_rbc_heritage/But yes, that 2013 Lidar is not great on holes like the 5th

I read that article, so the renovation and changes was made in 2015?
I did not find any lidar data from 2016/17, but if you have those data, send them and I can look at them. The only real changes done is on the 5th where the green has been significant moved, and so is the bunker (so manual sculpting is needed here - or elect to have the green area as it was prior to the changes). The bunker on 16 is not a problem (just need a tiny bit of sculpting), and so is the minor changes on the 2nd. The lidar data from 2013 is good, very good. Vertical accuracy is 10 cm. I have started to work on the course - there is though some major limitations in the designer that is most prominent on the 14th - the fringe goes all the way out to the walls, and I don't see how this is possible in the designer - perhaps some smart guys can figure something out? I think one must make a sacrifice to reality, either smaller green or more land (truly a shame on such a beautiful hole - water in the designer is a major thing that needs to be improved upon). Several bunkers are also walled in next to water (like the 8th), but this is less of an issue.
The course deserves a lidar version. (It is one of my all time favourite courses).

Yeah I was expecting some weird stuff like that with the water... somebody who’s good with retaining walls should be able to work around that however.
Hey is it possible for you to publish a beta version of the course right now? I’m just interested to see how it looks and plays... if you don’t want to that’s totally fine, I’m just curious.

I am not at all confident that there is possible to work around that problem, but I'm all ears if someone has good idea.. You have to wait for a beta, the course needs to be cleaned up (you will not get much out of it until that is done). I had problems with the data you are refering to earlier (got only shoreline), and now chad's tool can't project the data. I think I just do a pre-2016 version with the old green and bunker on the 5th (I also will make the 2nd and 16th according to pre-2016).

Thanks for working on this- we all appreciate it a ton! The pre-2016 version sounds totally fine, just do your best with all the limitations. For the 5th green, I would honestly just sculpt it manually and not worry about extreme detail. The green slopes back to front and has mounding on the right side of the green- the renovation article has a picture of it, along with this article which goes through every hole on the course: www.graylynloomis.com/harbour-town-golf-links/Again, I wouldn't worry too much about it not being perfect, just sculpt it out using the OSM and splines already loaded into tgc. Thanks so much for taking this project on! I'm more than willing to help with whatever questions or problems you have!

Me too I wish to help, but having no competence at all in designing, I can just dress the proper bra (my girl has a fantastic one, I'll steal it) and start to do the cheerleader. 👀
But NO. I'll not shave my legs. Oh.
