While I love competing in the design contests, I'm happy to be "free" of them finally. For my next course, we have (working title) Simsbury Heath, a fictional heathland style course set wherever the player thinks. It definitely has an English look to it even though the name is taken from a small town near where I went to music school in Connecticut. As of now (10 holes in) it's a par 71 at 7340 yards from the tips.
There is almost zero planting right now and some of the holes look even more bare because the parellel holes are not built yet.

b101 those look really nice. I'm going for more of an English heath look like: Here are a few more pics as I start planting the front nine.

This has been a really tough course to build. Courses that don't immediately look like the final version are the toughest. As the planting continues on the front 9 the course is starting to look almost exactly like I want, which is a nice change of pace. Most of the brown patches (sunken trees) will be planted with grass and bushes. Maybe a tree or two here and there but I'm really trying not to have any trees in the middle of the plot. Also, the object count will be up there because I'm only planting the green and slightly-less-green trees from the Autumn theme. This makes it impossible to use the ambient trees in the terrain menu. I'm really trying to have as few bright yellow and bright red trees as possible. Here's the overall plot and where the rest of the holes will be.

Here's the driveable par-4 13th. Depending on the wind and hole location, players will use a 2-wood, or driver might not be enough.

I finally have 18 playable holes. I've been working on this course since the Open Championship in July, and it's finally playable. It's not nearly finished mind you, but I can finally play a complete round at any settings to see what I've done. I expect to have it done sometime in the next 1-2 weeks.
Below is the type of view I want from one hole to the next.

Here's an overhead of the entire course. Still a long way to go, but at least it's taken it's final shape.
