I go with the 2 Iron and the 4 Iron instead of the 1 and 3 because I like the versatility on the par 3's more with that setup. It still comes down to covering gaps with fast swings sometimes, but I still get the distance benefit out of the heavy rough with the 2 iron. Which woods do you use?

Driver(285),2 Wood(253),1(234),3(214),5(194)-9 Iron, All Wedges I love my hybrids IRL but on this game they’re complete junk from the rough. The 1 Iron is the best rescue club in the game. It hits far more accurate and with a greater lie percentage than both hybrids and woods in this game. It has saved me numerous times, can get 200+ from the thick stuff. Fast swing with a 5I helps fill the gap some from missing 4 Iron. Also, learning to hit partials in USE has really improved my scoring in my other societies. Now I have an endless arsenal of short game shots at my disposal. Interesting, that’s exactly the bag I use also. I redid my clubs when I came to the conclusion that I hate the 5W. Now I use no fairway woods other than the 2. The 1 iron is definitely a life saver and is so much more accurate and can get you good distance out of the rough. I still haven’t figured out the 95% swing, I can get it a few times practice swing, but as soon as I ready up...boom either 85% or 100% fast. I’ve decided to just play around it for now and pick the lesser of two evils if I’m between clubs, as opposed to trying 95 and it completely backfires. The 95% is all about watching the avatar's animation. Give it some practice if it doesn't come off it's a 90% or 100%, if the pin's at the back off the green a 90% isn't too bad

As someone who has played TST from it's beginning before I switched to only playing the game in ultra sim settings here are a few tips on the differences. Course management comes much more into play now, how far to leave your approach shots on the shorter holes. Irl I would always like to leave myself a full shot of say 90 to 100 yards than a tricky pitch of 60 to 80 yards and I find the tempo more difficult in this game on pitch and flop shots than a full shots. Try to leave yourself a full LW or SW to the green. Practise those chip shots on the practice green, short chip shots are much more difficult because you can't loft them up and stop them quickly like you can TST .USE short game is 90% about partial shots, with practice you really start to get a feel for distance on these shots.I had been playing partial bunkers on TST with flop since TGC2 so there was no change there for me. Difference on the putting from TST is you can't pull back the marker to hit the putt softer, practice those downhillers because you have to hit them much softer than TST. If you want a view from behind the hole change your club to a wedge press Y and you can pan the camera around the hole. Also practice hitting 95% shots, I have made so many birdies when it comes off, don't always go for tucked away pins, better to aim where you know the ball can land and roll on. It's better to have a 25 foot putt than a tricky chip or flop. Thank you for the advice and tips. I see what you mean about playing shots where you leave yourself a full club from the green. I think my biggest challenge has been flop shots. I don’t carry a LW, preferring an extra long iron, but I make a lot of mistakes when I need a 50 yard shot. I can either try and go slow on a SW-pitch, or hit a fast PW-flop. Usually it’s a disaster. Regarding the putting, I’ve never played moved the marker back and forth. My tempo has always been based on 1 sec per 10 feet...adjusting of course for uphill/downhill. I agree that some pin placements are tucked to one side...best to go for middle of green and try to walk away with par. I can not imagine life without my LW! I really hate chipping with anything above a SW, it always feels so dangerous....so if I can’t use either of those to chip it’s on to the lob flop we go! It’s the shot I feel most comfortable with in the game.

It’s more of a panic thing...like I’ll get 3 in a row at 95% on the practice, but then blow it lol.

Replaced my 5 wood, and put the 2 Iron in my Bag. when I Joined This Tour. its been good for me.
just learning the 95 percent. shots on wedge approaches. ( I play without Shot feedback. ) . and don't take any practice swings. so its always a fun time. on the course.
and just started Learning how to pitch and chip, with partial shots.more around the greens. not using the flop shot as much any more. only when I feel it is necessary. on fast greens.
its getting very interesting and I crave learning all the shots. but for now working on a consistent swing tempo.

huh. interesting reading here. I never really changed out my clubs, I just took the default, I think its exactly what hammers1man was carrying.
I may have to give these long irons a try. I frequently end up in the heavy stuff, and those hybrids are just so bad I can't hit them, I'm limited to that 194yd iron, which goes about 140 out of the heavy rough. I've never thought about changing the hybrids to irons to have a better rough percentage.
I can do pretty good on the chip shots that are up to 15 yds away. Between 15 and 25 yds is truly my weak point. The pitch shots I actually can do pretty good though, its a slower swing, but somehow it lends itself to the way I swing apparently. I can't do percentages at all without messing them up, except for the chips.

The thing is that the game contradicts itself, hybrids are called rescue clubs for a reason to get some distance out of the rough. A 1 iron would be a driving iron, rarely hit off the fairway let alone the heavy stuff. Makes me wonder if some of these devs actually play the game.

I’m going to have to hit the range and figure out how to hit a 95% shot.

I don't do 95%. Never been able to get it. But haven't spent much time, I guess.
I do everything by tempo. It probably affects the range of what I can do, but it works for me.
I find chipping fine, myself. It's defo harder not using loft to make it stop, but you learn distances and find control of it. Same with flop. Both have the chance to go wrong, but I've learned them both.
I've even got pretty good at pitch shots! (Nobody seems to like them!)

It’s the shot I feel most comfortable with in the game. I think a long uphill chip is less dangerous than a flop, on PC anyway that flop is a bit high risk because the tempo is tight. For me the tempo on a flop I can get most of the time (PS4). So it’s just a matter of getting it to around 75% or something if I need to. It’s easier to me than trying to chip with like a pitching wedge, I just feel like the roll is too risky. With a flop I just have more control, but then again I just don’t have much experience chipping more than a SW. I just haven’t found the need to. lkeet- I don’t mind pitch shots, in non USE the pitching wedge is my cut off point though, I’d rather loft the sh%$ out of the lob wedge than to use the 8 or 9 iron. The only part of pitching that gets me sometimes is the wind. Never quite sure what it’s going to do to the distance.

I don't go for 95% myself, at least not on purpose. I just try to fast swing with the lesser club and leave myself at least a reasonable 2 putt situation if I'm in between clubs. If its really dangerous I just pick where is like to miss greenside. For chips and flops I've learned to hit a slow or very slow downswing to manipulate my distance. Its basically a generic rest pause at the top. Its not perfect but seems to work for me.

I watched WGO a few weeks ago and saw the segment where B.Smooth13 talked about the clubs in his bag. I figured "if it's good enought for him..." and switched up my bag to what he has. Has it helped? Hard to tell since I stink. But I feel smoother.

Round 3: (2 birdies, 6 bogeys, 1 double) +6 Saw hammers1man on the board, taunting me to "catch me if you can". I can't, BUT I CAN DREAM!! Onward! Round 4 (because...why not): (2 birdies, 5 bogeys) +3 Really like the classics. C'mon JosiaDB, catch me if you can!
