This is a new WIP for me, where I'm going a bit outside the box. Going to try and design a difficult, PGA-Tour difficulty layout that is under 6,800 yards, and has some psuedo-"Golden Age" architecture. This is kind of a pet project to see if I can stretch the creativity.
We won't be using template architecture per-se, but it will be a blend of styles, using flat-bottom bunkers around much of the course, and having extremely steep greens in places, like a lot of my hometown courses. Maybe SCobbTDC_tv can relate.

Nice looking work here Dario, and great to have a course based on real life like this! Wouldn't want to be in your area if those are the bunkers though... Also, in case he hasn't yet seen this - joegolferg

You say no templates but you'll definitely pull a few off without realizing. Looking at the early pictures this course is taking shape in the form of a Charles Banks layout. Those Raynor style cut in bunkers but with softer shaping. Love the idea of build a really difficult course that measures under 7000yds,its something I've always had in mind for a future project. Looking forward to the update pictures etc. Maybe these flyovers of Charles Banks gems could give you a little extra inspiration, especially the bunkering at Forsgate.

Sleepy Hollow is a Cleveland Metroparks course, home to the late Charlie Sifford. Probably the toughest of the 8 in the Metropark system.

Yes, not as well known as the one joegolferg is working on, but the Cleveland one has one of the best opening 3 holes I've played. I also realized that the green complex on the pic below is remarkably similar to hole 3 at Sleepy (which I don't have a picture of to compare unfortunately).
joegolferg I've already caught myself working on some semi-template holes, and I already have a green site that should be perfect for a biarritz.
Here's a couple more -

That par three... Wow.

The 5th hole - probably one of my more fun greens I've had a hand in designing. After the tee shot, it gives you a hybrid or fairway wood down a hill to this little green propped on the hillside.
I'm really enjoying stretching the creativity and style on this one. These flat bottom bunkers are different but much more menacing.

This is the short, tight, uphill 6th hole. One thing I like on a lot of my hometown courses was that the elevation change would hide so many things from you, like the dangerous bunkering around this green.

Uphill, hidden front bunker, blind/semi blind green... Already I think we might have an Alps template.

The 7th - A short tee shot of no more than about 230 to the edge of the hill, followed by a shot of all carry to a green that stands up in the valley.

8th hole. Downhill, about 200 yards.

Front nine design is finished. Tips out at a little over 3200 yards. Doing some cosmetic fill around the edges before getting into the design of the back nine.
