My four designs for TGC2019 have all been what I would call "wild" or "natural" type realistic courses, using four different Themes for the base. They all had lots of grassy weeds, heavy rough everywhere, and were generally untamed. I now would like to build a "manicured" type course, where there is much more groomed terrain and most of the planting is planned and decorative; a lot more fairway/light rough, flowers, beds, etc.
I am wondering if any of you experienced designers out there think that there is any one of the available Themes which would be most conducive to that goal?

Thanks for the suggestion, Joe. What are your reasons for preferring that particular theme?

Sorry I hadn't noticed this thread earlier so I may be a bit too late posting as I'm guessing you have already started the course by now but anyway...... Countryside, Rustic, Autumn or Harvest would be my initial suggestions but to be honest you can get that "manicured" look in most themes if required. From those four Autumn and Harvest are easy to rule out if you don't want all the reds and yellows that they both have so that just leaves you two to choose from. However, I wouldn't think so much about using a certain theme as such. It sounds like you already have a picture in your mind of the look you want so I would suggest starting off by thinking about what kind of trees are in that picture or you would like to have on your course and then go from there. Once you have decided on the trees then look at what other bushes/plants/flowers etc are available in themes that have the trees you want. Once you get to that point the theme should have pretty much chosen itself in a way.

In addition to the suggestions from the folks above which work very well for a parkland-style course, but if you're looking to replicate something that you'd see in the Bahamas, you can get a nice look with Tropical - something like Ocean Club Golf Course.

Thanks for the suggestions all of you. I am starting a build using Rustic, because I didn't want the red/yellow of Autumn or Harvest. I am really unsure how I am going to carry this off, because of my previous use of so much "nature". I will have to think long and hard about how to make the course look like my vision of manicured.

If you’re going into the how I’d have to ask what kind of course you’re going for and I’d suggest looking at published courses that are close to what you want to produce. There are plenty of joegolferg courses that are based off of Golden Age courses, namely Raynor courses. theclv24 has done a couple of rcrs that are similar and @b.Smooth1 has some fictional ones too. You could also look into NobleMan’s LiDAR courses as he has done a lot of Philadelphia-area courses that could be considered “manicured”.

Thanks for the suggestion, Joe. What are your reasons for preferring that particular theme? Rustic has a good set of grasses and planting material, the oak trees are nice and neat when placed single handedly. If by manicured you're talking about designed a parkland style course it is, in my experience, rustic that has been home to the best clean and classic looking parkland layouts in the game. The greenery really pops on this theme compared to the others. If you need any help just give me a shout. Here's a picture of one of my current projects in the rustic theme...

The Rough texture brushes are your best friend for this, particularly the heavy rough one.

Thanks again to all of you. To go further about what I mean by "manicured" I am thinking of Augusta National. Not that the layout would be anything like that, but the use of mulch/pinestraw around all or most tree areas, lots of flowering bushes or plants, few weedy geasses, mostly light rough, etc. I have made a start, but it is probably going to take a while, as I am also working on a "semi-fantasy-realistic" layout with lots of improbable deep canyons around realistic golf holes.

Have you played The Mantis? That course basically nailed the look it sounds like you're going for.
