I’ve seen a lot of designers measure everything out.
I only measure the tee shot (whether it’s just one option or multiple) so I know the landing zones and free draw the fairway around it. Do a few play tests with high winds in different directions
Looking like a good opening hole

Do you design hazards based on standard light wind or try to cover all eventualities, I’ve decided to design to standard club yardages and then test in different winds. I imagine actual golf architects design around the prevailing area conditions

I just put them in at master clubs distances without taking wind into account. Wind effect is just too variable to try and cover it all in my opinion, others might.
I’ll usually try to make my hazards long along the fairway so they come into play for pro clubs as well.
I’ll test in different winds just to make sure my fairways are reachable in any condition

Very early days. A few photos below of how i'm constructing holes on this course... Do everyone do this the same way or something similar ? This is exactly how VctryLnSprts does it - he's pretty good, so clearly a good way of doing it!

VctryLnSprts tutorial showed me a number of different techniques, not just that but also course management. I was designing with me standing on the tee spraying the driver left or right, not designing with Perfect/Perfect straight line drives EVERY time in mind; below shows an option off the tee which if taken will save 40 yards for the second shot, you can see how wide i originally had the fairway compared to what it will be on the left!

Ha, Milner has latched onto that boring tag and really turned it to his advantage, good player too. Klopps Pocket is slowly taking shape..

How about the well-known Greek course: Kyrgiakos' folly? Or Carroll's wasteland?
