Some think this rule is an anachronism and is no longer needed in the latest version of the game. Some think it's a bit silly if you can't reach the hole with the putter. Others think (wrongly) that it should stay as it is But enough of those idiots - what do YOU think?

Probably a rare voice here sticking up for the status quo.
It's simple, which i think is why it exists as it is.
A more complex calculation involving elevation/green speed probably involves loads more potential complaints which then have to be investigated, as well as people chipping when they shouldn't.
Think being unable to get to the hole has happenned to me twice in 4 years. You have to really f**k up to put yourself in that scenario and kind of deserve what you get if you do IMO

One suggestion i will make is to reduce it from 100ft to 50ft when we're playing on genuinely slow ass greens (say, less than 144).
It's the combo of greens with big ridges and slow greens that usually present this problem in my experience

Totally buy the argument on simplicity - often better when it comes to rules.
On the more potential complaints to investigate; if we're shying away from a better rule because it's a bit of extra effort - I wouldn't call that a strong argument. Being a community policed rule, most of the additional effort wouldn't land on the admins.
But do think your suggestion on going to 50foot for greens under 144 would be happy compromise to the people in the "accounting for speed and elevation" camp like me 👍 Keeps things almost as simple and as you say it's the slow green speeds where this problem occurs.

As said previously, here’s my stance - putt if it’s inside 100ft, with the sole exception of a putt so far uphill that the default putting marker is maxed out for the given speed of the greens, meaning the game says a 100% putt power would not be sufficient.

My stance is either do away with the rule altogether and allow chipping from anywhere, or remove the 100-foot threshold and make it so that you have to putt no matter what the distance is.
1. Chipping isn't significantly easier than putting like it was in TGC1 when the rule was implemented.
2. An overwhelming majority of people either believe putting on the green is fine or it's not fine. Either you think the game mechanics are punishment for a bad shot or you think players should be allowed to chip when game mechanics make a shot absolutely impossible.
So let's pick option A or option B. Either chipping is fine or it's not; no arbitrary distance rule.
I would vote to allow chipping. Having an impossible shot sucks and we don't have to worry about green damage.

Limit the size of greens so you can't have a putt over 100 feet, not as if its TGC1 with ice hockey rink greens that won't hold a 3w approach.

I had one this week on TST got a horrible bounce ended up 84ft up 4ft away from hole with 119 green speed, ended up 4 putting for double. Voted for it to remain as it is.

Wow.. a tough one.
You know...After the chat about this same topic that we have some day ago, it becomed hard for me me using something different then my putter, when i'm on the green. Just today i was in the situation were i was really far from the pin, but i feel myself just "unloyal", unconfortable at all, flopping or chipping, so i putted. I hitted the ball faster then i can and i saved the par, in the end.
i don't know. I know is frustrating, but this rule actually fits with the spirit of the game, for me, expecially considering all the issues that we should have changing this rule. Cause we can't check how anyone would use a new rule.
I mean..i'm afraid that if we change this rule, how can be reported a non legal chip or flop if nobody knows the exact distance which that chip/flop was made? And..what could be the right way to change this rule? The elevation is not 1:1 with the lenght. 1 inch of elevation is not 1 foot of distance. What it should be a better new distance? And i absolutely dislike the idea to leave free the players to chip/flop everytime from everywhere. I know that this is a videogame, but i never saw a pro golfer to do this kind of things without a reason absolutely good. And scores here are already enough ashtoning. We should to look for some way to make this game a bit harder, not easier, in my opinion.
But above all, my fear is just that to solve an issue, we could obtain just to have a lot of more and worst problems, doubts, suspects..and here a lot of guys are already absolutely sure that who plays very well has to be a cheater.. i don't know if this change should be good also for the community.
I will waiting to vote, looking for someone who could suggest a good way to solve the issue. I don't agree 100% with the rule, but i agree with the fact that at least is equanimous. It don't create doubts or chances of misunderstanding. I don't want to change just to change. I wish to know what is actually on the table, before. Some well exposed idea. With not gray zones.

In real life golf there is no rule stipulating the type of club you can/can’t use on the green or anywhere else on the course.
If Tiger wants to tee off with his putter and putt with his driver at the Masters or any other tournament, he can.
I think the simplist thing to do would be to have no rule and I think it also makes sense to follow what real golf says

I think the simplist thing to do would be to have no rule and I think it also makes sense to follow what real golf says I know that there is not a rule. But there's some kind of "gentlemen agreement", considering also that using something different then a putter should ruin the green. But anyway..you can easily remember a player chipping or flopping just cause he was too far from the hole? I can't. For me the example more clear about what is the habit of the pro players on this kind of situation, is what happened to Stenson some year ago. If i remember well it was 2013, but i could be wrong of 1-2 year. TPC Boston. 18th hole, par 5. 3rd or 4th day. With his usual 2w, he reach the green with his second shot, but just at the start of it, while the pin was placed near the very end of the green. And the green at the 18 of that course is very long and sloped. It requires a real great putt. Anyway..he don't seems not even for a single moment to think about what to do. He took his putter and after some study tried with it. I remember well this fact in particular just cause in that tournament, he was in contention for the win, i believe.. But above all, i honestly can't remember a single time in which a pro player flopped or chipped on the green. The only time i see this happens for sure, it was at the TPC San Antonio, in that green with the bunker on his centre. I can't remember this happening not even at St. Andrews, Maybe it happened, but i can't remember it. I mean..rule or not rule, is considered wrong to use something different then a putter on a green, i think.

My response is what would they do on the PGA tour. You get stuck with a 100 foot putt uphill...you putt.
