Had to tuck it up under the belt after these two.

Whereas the 10th hole needed a little finessing to get 4 pin locations, the 11th needed major work just to allow 2 sets of 2 pins in the same general locations. This is the raw green prior to any work: It seems extreme, but across the multiple course tours I've seen posted, all have said some sort of the following about the 11th: "If you find yourself on a tier above the pin, good luck. There is no way to keep the ball on the green from that point."This will be a controversial hole I'm guessing, even despite my smoothing work. It's kind of like what we saw with the Redan hole at Charleston for the US Women's Open, where some suggested a good strategy was to layup well short of the hole to prevent any chance of going in the back bunker. Here's a suggested strategy: "...choose a club that will get you to the front level of this three level green. Putt or chip uphill to the pin. Now, change philosophy and get the ball to the hole or you’ll be stepping aside as the ball rolls back past you, and maybe off the green.”

Awesome to see this course coming to life. Gotta be one of the most underrated courses in America. Doesn’t get enough credit since it’s not on the coast but with the name Mackenzie, it doesn’t need to be. The project looks pretty sick so far and the anticipation to give it a play is real. Finish strong.

Trying to put in a lot of hours on this today and tomorrow. If I can get everything done by late afternoon tomorrow and I feel good about it, I might publish. Otherwise if it's not ready by then, looking at mid to late next week. The 15th is a short 4, 313 yards or so from the back tee. Like the 13th, even though this is considered the flatter part of the plot, the land movement short of and around the green makes things tricky here, and not straightforward. The green is described as an upside bowl, and falls off on all sides. The 16th is the second and final par 5. It traverses the flattest land of the property, and is usually into the wind. The green is the main defense here, with lots of bunkers and a severe back left to right front slope.

18 holes finished! Now grass, grass, grass, and playtesting. Looking like tomorrow might be an option for publishing. 18 is a sharp dogleg right, with the clubhouse on the bluff overlooking the green. The back tee plays around 400, while perhaps more interestingly the shorter tees play up on the hill next to the 17th green, at a much sharper angle. Until some recent tree removal, the tee shot was basically completely over trees. A final sharply back to front green. After the round, you can sit outside at the clubhouse and watch play at the 18th below, and look to your left out over Lake Michigan (not pictured).
