With fast greens it is a putting contest - if you can putt well with masters, use those, if not, use pro - that would be my advice. My problems with masters clubs are the irons especially flopping and chipping. Really? Flop and chip I find easy with Masters, longer approaches is where I mess up; I tend to have too many slow swings and miss a lot of them to the right. With flops and chips, I get them close most of the time.

Cappy1 Ernie you are 100% right about the flopping. I do ok with the chipping. The 40-80 yd shots are killers for me. I just can't get them close enough for good birdie ops. They seems to run out one time and stop on a dime the next.
The other things I struggle with is the occasional vf and vs swing that comes out of nowhere.
Good luck.

I’m going to be using the Master Clubs for the next few weeks to see how I do with them, drivers ok it’s the proximity to the hole with the medium to short irons I have trouble with. Putting I don’t see much difference but I’m not great at putting in game anyway. That’s the reason I’m taking a bit of time out see if I can get used to the big boys clubs, expect me to drop back down the tours a bit.

Back to mediocrity with round 3. -4 only - good luck Marc!
On a non-golfing note took the missus to see 'Yesterday' last night at the Gold class cinema (leather recliners, cold bottle of SSB, hamburger sliders) Interesting concept for a movie - enjoyed it.

The first semifinal pits the two oldest Dirtbags and former Podracer teammates, Bill and Ernie, not to be confused with Bert and Ernie, even though Bill plays like Bert sometimes. I will describe the carnage, and you may want to look away. The first hole was shared with par 4s. The second hole, a par 4 was halved with birdies. Match all square. The par 5 3rd hole was also halved with matching birdies. The next 3 hole were also halved as both players matched each other stroke for stroke. On the seventh hole, Bill's swing developed a problem. A hook sends him to the left of the green while Ernie misses the green as well. Both player hit good enough chips to salvage pars, so through 7 holes we are still all square. A very good match so far as both players are -4 through 7 holes. On the 8th hole, a par five Ernie splits the middle of the fairway and watches Bill again duck hooks into oblivion. Bill's caddie mutters, slow it down! Bill was lucky enough to find his ball but could only punch out. Somehow he hits his 3rd shot onto the green but was a mile away. 3 putts later and Bill has a bogey. Ernie calmly strikes his birdie put into the center of the hole for a +1 lead. On the 9th another FIR for Ernie and another duck hook by Bill pushes Ernie to a 2 up advantage at the turn. The back side showed Bill unable to hit a fairway (57% FIR for the day) and Ernie never missing. Ernie put his shoe on Bill's throat and did not let up. Ernie finishes with a win that ended with a closeout at the 14th. Bill was certainly KO'd but most was self inflicted. Ernie shoots a sparkling 59 and would have beaten a lot of players on this day. Congrats Ernie and on to the finals. Bill muttered something about 'hooks' and 'balls not dropping' as he left the course. First finalist Ernie Copage cappy1 .

Crazy Croc bogeyman The second semifinal match pits Marc van Niekerk, a first year Dirtbag, against newcomer Peter Mollen, who will officially join the league for Season 4. Peter is not a stranger to several of us as we played in the 'Sons of Pitches' community and he ran it. I would say this should be a lot closer than semi #1. As the players approached the first tee, the huge crowd was divided in their support. The first hole was parred by Pete and Marc could not match it as he bogied. Pete +1. The second hole, a par 3 was split with pars. The 3rd hole a par 5 is a 'gettable' hole so both players wanted a birdie but again both Pete and Marc could only salvage routine 5's. Pete +1 after 3 holes. The 4th, 5th and 6th holes were also halved with pars as both players seemed to be 'settling in' for a tough match. After 6, Pete +1. At the par 3 7th, Pete hits a great shot and makes birdie. Marc also hit the green but his birdie putt fell just short. Pete +2 after 7 holes. On the 8th hole, a par 5, Pete slips up and makes a bogey while Marc make a par to cut the lead in half. Pete +1 after 8. At hole 9, Marc got the honors and hit the fairway off the tee and Pete matched his drive. On the approach shot Pete misses the green and gets a horrid lie. Marc, meanwhile hits the green in regulation and makes his par. Pete's troubles continue on this hole as he 3 putts for a triple and the match is now even. Even after 9 and a great match. The back nine...The 10th, a par 4 was halved with pars. The 11th and 12th holes were parred by both players and the match remains tied after 12. At the par 4 13th, Marc missed the fairway but manages to hit the green in regulation and two putts for par. Meanwhile Pete, hits an iron inside 10' and sinks his birdie put to go up by one. The 14th and 15th were both parred and Pete hangs on to his one hole advantage. Is Marc feeling the pressure? I doubt it, as he has 3 holes to tie the match. At the 16th par 3 both players hit the green and have birdie putts. Marc putts first and his birdie putt just slides by and he has to settle for par. He waits helplessly as he watches Pete line up an 8' slider. The putt breaks into the hole for a birdie. Peter is now up 2 with 2 to play. The match is now dormie for Pete. On the par 4 17th, Marc, knowing that he needs the hole blisters a long straight drive into the middle of the fairway. Peter hits the FW but is well behind Marc. Pete hits first and his approach lands 15' from the cup. Marc's approach lands 17' from the cup.Tensions mount as Marc realizes a tied hole will not do him any good. Marc's putt is sure and finds the bottom of the cup for birdie! Pete now has a 15 footer for the win. His putt rolls toward the hole and trickles IN FOR THE WIN, a matching birdie. Peter wins this match 2 and 1. Congrats to both Dirtbags on a match well played! Peter will join Ernie in the KO finals.

First finalist Ernie Copage cappy1 . Really enjoy your write-ups Bill adds a lot to the game and the Dirtbags group. I had one of my better rounds. But the muttering I heard after the 14th hole was something about hookers and drinks.

Dirtbag season 4
As we approach another great season, we ask that anyone not playing next season to let us know. Next week we will be choosing new players after the promo events. If anyone knows someone who would be a great Dirtbag, nominate him or her in this thread and we will consider all nominations.
After finalizing the rosters, the captains will make their picks and season 4 will begin week after next, if all goes well. Don't forget to make comments or suggestions if you think of something that will improve our already fun and competitive league. We would like to hear any comments about the season 3 format we used. Like? Dislike? Comments.
