Seriously though, get your hands on a contour map and I could come up with a good estimate on cut/fill

Do It! These guys managed to build a green for $600. Haha, I’ve been watching a lot their videos recently, that’s kinda what made me think this was actually doable. I think I probably need to find a better site for this though, that Redan kicker alone would be a LOT of fill dirt for a flat site. I could save on a lot of excavation cost by fitting it into the land naturally somewhere. The Fried Eggs guys didn’t move a lot of dirt for theirs.
You know you're going to have to do a lot of earth-moving to build this green? My guess is they didn't do a lot of that if any beforehand and neither did they build up the soil much underneath it. 2 inches may work but I have no idea how well. Most 'real' greens on courses are what, 10 inches deep or so? But that might be mainly for drainage. Additionally, chances are the green you are considering will have roughly 5-10x the surface area of that one. More work to maintain and if you plan to build bunkers, those will cost as well. I think if you build it the same way these guys did maybe you're looking at $3000 minimum? That isn't terrible considering what it is, but you'd have to get an estimate from someone who actually knows this stuff.

Why not two greens, eliminates a lot of walking to the next tee? Half the tees around the first green and half of them around the second?
Just do it.

Seriously though, get your hands on a contour map and I could come up with a good estimate on cut/fill Before my grandfather passed away he owned a civil construction company and when I was like 15-16 that’s exactly what I would have to do in summers. Cut/fill estimates, plan takeoffs to estimate how much curb and gutter, asphalt, etc. Wish I still had access to construction equipment like that lol.

Well if ever comes a time, I can help create some cad models for you and get a pretty good number. Maybe we can discuss on an upcoming Wine & Design ep ✊🏻

So there is a 17 acre property for sale about 30 minutes from where I currently live and work, very affordable, and already has a living space on the property. So naturally, I'm watching a couple Some Guy's Backyard videos and thinking how easy it would be to do something like that. But then I was like well that would be a lot of mowing and maintenance and can I even afford to build one green, much less multiple greens, and while I'm thinking of reasons not to do this, I'm already designing it in my head, and thinking it'd be easier to just have 1 big green that incorporates all the good template greens within it and then just set up tee boxes around the property and play into whichever template green you want. So then it became a cool little 2-3 hour challenge while I was at work, and this is what I came up with: 1 - Redan 2 - Biarritz 3 - Punchbowl 4 - Lion's Mouth 5 - Eden 6 - Thumbprint Short The idea being you could hit from the left set of tees into the Eden or Short, the right set of tees into the Biarritz or Redan, any of the tees into the Punchbowl, and the back tee would be a gnarly short par 4 into the Lions Mouth. Or you can just mix and match however you feel like because it's your yard. The entire green is about 33,000 sf, about 3/4 of an acre. I know, I know, I'm severely underestimating how much money and work and time it would be to build and maintain. I get it. But it'd be awesome, yeah? It looks great in game at least. Put a tee in the bottom left of the property and play to where the 1st and 4th greens overlap, and you've got yourself a mini (reverse) Road hole, complete with shed-obstructed tee shot!

Just buy a simulator. Can use it year round and no mowing required.

Just buy a simulator. Can use it year round and no mowing required. Only if he hosts a release party every time he drops a new course

You only live once... Personally, with all that land I'd build a 9 hole par three template course. Use what you dig out as bunkers to build the green pads. Yeah, but then I thought driving to and mowing 9 different greens over 17 acres sounds like way more work than just driving to one big green and mowing it all at once, since it would need to be done 3-4 times/week. And then I was thinking - what's the best way to monetize it so that the upkeep at least pays for itself? Rent out the entire thing for like $100/hour, so 4 friends could pay $25/each to come and putt for an hour, or hit shots into it for an hour, or practice short game for an hour, etc. Or you each throw in $100 and rent it for 4 hours and it's pretty much your own private 9 hole to do whatever you want with. I mean it already has a huge horse arena and stables on the property, no telling what I could do with that. There aren't any pictures of the actual living space, so that would probably be the make or break for me. I'm calling the realtor to see if I can go see it today after work. wow, what a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Dream big, live big man! I say go for it!!

Love this idea. I'm stealing it for one of my newer courses as a playable practice facility.
