Again, planting, Texturing, course layout, have ZERO to do with the QUALITY of a LiDAR course. Quality of LiDAR only depends on the Height Accuracy and spacing of the cloud-point per a given area. The next part of that Quality, is the kicker. It is how it is Scale Mapped in Chad's Tool, then processed onto the themed plot of land. This provide the tempo for the QUALITY. And still is only half the battle. As there is the issue of "Object Meter" and amount of terrain Clean-Up ... and This is where the "QUALITY of LiDAR" course resides. Your Statement has nothing to do with Brian's ability to turn out a fantastic looking finished product, of which I was a fan of his Cypress Dunes. His love for Alister MacKenzie, also has anything to do with the "QUALITY" of the LiDAR data ... It just provides him with drive and motivation to do this course justice, as it did with my version. I am indeed hopeful that he pulls this off ... There is room for more than one version of this famed course and the fact it will be done properly in his version is all that matters. More importantly, the Course looks differently during different times of the year ... so again, It's great that he is going in a different direction with tackling the sand dunes. I chose not to, because I didn't want the same "Sand Texture" look - to take away from the actual sand bunkers on the course (And in my opinion, it did) ... This is a compromise I had to deal with. Especially, when it came to deal with the dreaded "Object meter". I really hope he pulls it off without many compromises. This course was the toughest one I have attempted to do within the designer limited capabilities. To wrap this up, LiDAR is no true Magic cure for the quality of a course. It is the details added by the designer and how he's chosen to whet his palette.
Brian will no doubt do well.
I would argue that planting, Texturing and course layout have everything to do with producing a quality lidar course that remains an accurate RCR. The LIDAR portion of the course is the same for anyone on a pc who goes through the proper steps of pulling in the data. The planting, texturing and course layout are the true challenge. The lidar data can be perfect and match planet earth exactly in that location, but if the designer doesn’t truly draw you into that space and make you feel like you are there IRL, then what does it matter than the elevation was exactly right? I think this is just a break down of communication really. Typically, when someone calls something a “quality lidar course” it is just another way of expressing appreciation of the RCR. No one cares about “quality lidar” in the sense of pulling the right data. We expect you to pull the correct data. That’s a given. "To wrap this up, LiDAR is no true Magic cure for the quality of a course. It is the details added by the designer and how he's chosen to whet his palette. "
"Brian will no doubt do well."I am guessing you did not see this ... I must have beamed down on a different planet today ...

I didn’t mention Brian at all actually. I was just trying to clarify how you may have misinterpreted when someone called this a quality LIDAR course before you attacked someone else. Clearly that failed. I don’t need bold letters or caps to read, thanks though.

Sorry but I find this to be a bit of a slight towards brian and his proven track record.... everything about this screams quality... too much negativity on your part Typical BS ... learn to read. I did nothing of the sort. Learned to read many years ago not to mention I can read thru the lines as well.... not taking anything at all away from your rendition just comes off as sour grapes on your part but I digress at this point... just seemed an unnecessary slight in my humble opinion.

Guys, we'll be fine. If there's room for multiple Augusta's, Cypress is no different. Excellence in a picture my friend

My apologies Brian, if I have derailed your thread in any way ...
I think you understood where I was going about this LiDAR stuff (Guess RockManDan has really got to me), It had absolutely nothing to do with what I hope you pull off with Cypress ...
But I think you knew that ...
Good luck again, keep up the great progress.

Well, this looks good. Love the touches with the wooden fence and classic Petty rocks

Personally, I prefer the alternate tees on #15: And I love the way #12 green sits: And I kinda don't want to plant the dunes as heavily as they are now so they look more like this: Instead of this: But I can leave that until the end to decide.

Agreed. This one feels like it will be one of the iconic renditions in the whole Golf Club series. Right up there with Magnolia and Pebble. There are just a couple designers that are at a completely different level than the rest, and Petty is one of them. He has a combination of talent and mastery in the designer, as well as a complete understanding of golf course architecture, history, and aura. I've been eagerly waiting for this rendition to play Cypress Point.
