Can someone show a before and after picture of sunken trees, why it is done? Not sure there is a thread on the forums or not but I thought I would ask.
Thank you!

Sunken trees are normally used to give the terrain a more natural change of texture. If used near a steep slope they will produce a rockier look to the slope without sacrificing the smoothness of the terrain above or below the slope. I noticed they don't really work on the Rustic theme but should work on Autumn, Highlands and Boreal.

I'm working on a course now with a par 3 over water. The cliff edge is around 20 feet high. Oak trees seemed to work the best. Could be making that up. But then used the heavy rough brush, shrunk it as small as possible to highlight flatter spots.

The game changes the way the default heavy rough texture is interpreted around trees in a way that leaves a washed-out look. If you want to see fairly clearly what that means you can go into a blank plot in the designer in either delta or boreal (easiest to see this effect in those two themes in my opinion) and clear out some trees. The area you cleared out should be what the default terrain looks like without any of the effects from trees, and everywhere that has trees should have the effect. It’s also good to know that leaving sunken trees also affects shadows in the area where the sunken trees are which, if overdone, can look unnatural.

Courtesy: reebdoog This video should start at the 9:20 mark. If it doesn't just skip to about that point.

Careful about the trees around the green though. I tried my hand at sunken trees to give a rocky look to my dunes in Tantallon and ended up having to go back and delete most of them due to lag around one of my greens. That was painful to do because it is hard to find them underground! Haha

Haha I was going to mention this, objects that are sunken are still objects, if you over do it around landing areas, especially greens, it could cause lag which can become an issue during your swing. Also, I'm glad you were asked to touch up the course, it's a great track and deserves to host a tournament. Can't wait to play the update.
