With the bulk of the top 20 out this a week for the Matchplay we get a chance for a higher finish; although reduced points on offer.
Started rd 1 with a horrible double bogey thanks to an off tempo drive (F) and then approach (S). Managed to get it back on track a bit after this and hit it pretty well to get to a 65 (-7). Straight onto rd 2 and wasn't quite hitting it as well and left myself with longer putts, ended up with a 66 (-6). So -13 at the cut (if there is one).
So I'm lucky there isn't a cut line this week. My first round was a solid, if unspectacular, -3. Putting me a couple of strokes above the theoretical cut line of -1 in typical tournaments on this wonderful tour. Then the second round happened. Front nine was okay with a couple of birdies and a couple of bogeys for an even 36. It all fell apart on the back nine. A double on #14, and two more bogeys on #16, #17 left me +4 for the round and +1 for the event after 36 holes. A glance at the leaderboard last night showed my +1 as good enough for 91st.
The third round was easily the best round I've ever had on TST. A solid start on the first five holes with a couple of birdies and pars, but a spectactular second shot on the par-5 6th left a 3 ft. putt for eagle really set the tone for the round. Finished the last six holes with 5 birdies and a par and the round at -10. In the course of 18 holes, I rocketed up the leaderboard by almost 60 spots. And all thanks to a week where the cut line didn't exist!
