What happens if you mask inside the course and eliminate everything but the essentials? Will masking internal trees, water, houses, etc. help preserve meter space? I would think all of these non-essentions can be placed by hand at a much lower cost to data.

Water is optional and up to you. I used to automatically mask water so I could look into doing this again, but the giant holes in the ground were confusing for people. It may also mask more than you want if OpenStreetMap isn't aligned perfectly. Here's an interesting example of showing you how to mask a huge course to use resources efficiently.

Speaking of Masks No matter how many times I try, and I follow your way of using Paint 3d for the mask, I always end up in the architect programs with a huge giant sqare Basically the mask isnt working.... Ive did this like 10 straight times, I choose the red upper right like you did and CTRL S to save and yet still a giant square Not sure why? ?

This has literally nothing to do with the subject but I see Muirfield Village... that makes me happy...
Anyways, maybe it’s a problem with the LIDAR? Either that or I completely misunderstood what you were asking haha...

Is that Muirfield Village? I'm thinking it is, looks very familiar.

Or is it saving it as like a saved project for Paint 3D? I use a free program called GIMP and simply saving does not re-export it as a png, I actually have to go into the File menu and choose Export, and then choose png.

That may be it Craig, Ill give GIMP a try, thanks bud Terry Terry, I had exactly the same issue - what you need to do is overwrite the original mask file that TGC Tools generates for you after processing the Lidar data. If you don't overwrite the original after red masking the .png then the tool will always revert to selecting that original file to import data onto. Worked for me at least!
