This week we welcome a new designer to the web.com family as well as one of many designers whose first tour course is here on the web. For a lot of you that were recently in the challenge circuit Celtic Wolf will be known to you. He is very active in the challenge circuit forums, organizing and helping run side events on those forums. So I invite Pat to tell us a little bit about his course if he has the time. To everyone else, good luck and have fun.

First of all I'd like to hmammoth for selecting Desert Wolf as the venue for the El Bosque Mexico Championship. Desert Wolf started out as an experiment to try out feedback I had received on my Survivor Contest entry Wolf Trail at Illinois State. I reached out to various designers and members to find out how to take on a steppe themed course. I wanted to create a course with a bit of variety and one that would challenge all level of players. I took inspiration from various courses from the TGC database and tried to apply them on this course. One thing I wanted to have was gentle slopes on the greens which allowed players to go for the pin in any conditions. The wind may determine the target area for your drive on various holes like holes 2, 5, 7 and 14. Holes 7, 8 and 14 have split fairways that can challenge players to play it safe or go for it. Personal favourites for me are holes 5, 7 and 17, the 17th is one that may catch players out if their swing is off or too aggressive. I'd like to thank all who suggested ideas including ErixonStone Violinguy69 Tenahka and VctryLnSprts . I hope you all enjoy the course and I welcome any feedback. I bet the new guys from CC thought they'd seen the last of me, sorry guys. I'm hoping to have a full 18 hole tour version of Wolf's Fang ready for play soon.

I realize this doesn’t look like a big deal, but there are a lot of small victories in here. First and foremost, it’s a bogey-free round, which I need a lot more of so I don’t give away shots. Secondly, I stayed disciplined to my pre-shot routine the whole round, which improved my tempo and my proximity to the hole for the most part. And finally, even though the score doesn’t really show it, I wasn’t that far off of a much lower score because I still struggled with putting despite playing better... but that still makes me feel like I was more “in it” if a few more putts would drop. Hopefully I can play well in round two and make a few more birdies to get back to playing the weekend rounds. Very nice course Pat, great job and quite challenging around the greens.

Well my week was about as consistent as a person could be -9, -9, -9 and guess what -9 again. Very happy with that. Round 3 I had a stretch of 4 holes at +2 but other than that, it was some of my better play. Thought the course was great, and some variation in wind directions kept it very interesting. Best of luck to everyone left to play.

So after the format change for the show I had to find a time to play my rounds. So thought why not this afternoon. And managed to throw up a 60 in R1 that was as solid as I could have played outside of the pars on 2 of the par 5s. Went right into R2 and the putter got a bit cold...fought back to get it to 8-under par and sit at 20-under at the cut. That should give the boys a good score to go for - will probably finish up tonight - but might keep it off stream to see if I can't post another 20-under in the last two rounds...that streaming is to blame for all my missed cuts I think!! haha...good course, great challenge. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of this event shakes out - looking for a top 10 and hopefully put myself in contention for my first win in 3 decades!

Unfortunately another missed cut for me. I still see positives in my swing, but my short game was awful in R2.

3rd round done and a little luck involved for a -12. Wouldn’t have been unhappy with 3 worse but nice to have some rubs of the green. Eagled 17 when bravely went for it into a strongish wind and it landed 1 ft from the rough and trundled up to about 10 ft. Followed up with a chip-in birdie on 18. Started round 4 steadily but then played very well to once again hit -12. Finished at -44 and 6 shots behind ‘he who shall not be mentioned’. Having just been promoted It’s nice playing with everyone on a level playing field. For those who haven’t had the misfortune of playing masters in CC - it really is a grind.....
Good luck all,
DP

-44 is great tournament, congrats. I'm not sure I'm playing the same game as everyone else! Constantly amazed how well some people can play these courses. Very nice course, too.

Great win Denzil Penberthy - I was club house leader for a good chunk of the week (i can see behind the curtain!) and thought I might have done enough - but I missed a make-able eagle putt on 17 that looks to be my undoing. I was feeling bad for Dylan as I gained 5 shots in the last 2 holes to hop over him into 1st. Then you came along and did the same to me. Good tournament, one of the best I've had in a while - tempo was on point and the putter was on fire (2nd behind only Dylan). Enjoyed the course, had to hit your spots to score. Good luck in W18!

Cheers Doyley, was a really good tournament. 17 was tough. In rd 4 I pulled the tits of a 2h and ended in the debris left. Thinking this may ruin any chance made a great up and down with no space. Then luckily chipped in on 18. It was the difference. Once the scores were announced I felt for Dylan. Leading until 17 and a triple is a bit heart-breaking. Good luck this week - think it will need low scores.
