I am not one for artificially difficult courses. But Pebble always plays too easy. The winner next week will likely be closing in on -70. I played a practice round last night in medium winds and firm greens, blue(longest) tees. I shot -15 and felt like a big Fail. 4 non birdies and one eagle. In TGCT events this course is always a disaster for me because of the pressure to birdie everything. And, well because I have issues controlling my nerves for the first half of the first round or so. So when I’m -4 after the first 9 my tournament is already over with. And I need to play like Chad Thunderprick to even get to the cut. .
I just wish this one was about 7700yrd instead of less than 7100. The only thing they can do to have this course defend itself is artificially high winds (20+ - I very much dislike) and green speeds like around 119 (which I feel should be outlawed on tour).
I’m seriously considering sitting this one out.
What do you think? Does this course get your competitive juices flowing, or is it a snooze? Do you hope for calm conditions and fast greens, or do you prefer a hurricane and sloppy slow greens?

One of my all time favorite courses to play in video games going back 15+ years. I wish we could play the IRL course every week, but that is just my two cents.
The U.S. Open is at Pebble this year, so we might get it again in June.

There is a design competition starting in the next couple of days - the winner of that will host the US Open. So Pebble won't.

Glad we are labeled the "PGA Tour" and host majors that mimic the actual real life tours so we can not play the same as we watch on TV. *eyeroll*

Maybe Friendbomber will thoughen it up a bit. Last time they had the US Open greens were ridiculous. There is a great clip of Poulter losing it after hitting a gap-wedge to the center of the 7th green and having it one hop into the back bunker. Great stuff!

Almost as good. That is what majors should be all about.

We don't need consistenly challenging course's, in fact, the opposite is better. A good variety of difficulty and courses overall keeps things from becoming formulated. By all means sit it out if you're not keen on the course, but I don't think it should be looked down upon just because of its lack of difficulty. Consider it a chilled week of golf. But in terms of a major venue, we're having a US Open design competition.

Besides under the right conditions the course can kick your ass!

Speaking of conditions, and not that it really matters, but are we still doing weather for the next tourney or is the weatherman off this week?

I almost never play well at Pebble. Still going to enjoy the event. It's a great golf course.

It’s too bad we couldn’t get a tougher pebble (edit for the US open). Narrow the fairways. No Light rough. Very firm and very fast. Brown out the grass a little. Shrug.
