I know what you guys are saying about the rules but common sense needs to apply also. I don't know about all the fine details about what the Tour Admins can and can't see about Tomato's round (or anybody elses) and of course it's their final say anyway. It's usually clear if somebody has made a genuine mistake rather than deliberately playing the system. Jeff already responded that someone using the wrong clubset is not punished with 2 strikes. I agree that this is the best approach. There just isn't anything the admin can do along the lines of, "it was only one shot, so we'll ignore it," because the game doesn't support switching clubs or club sets during a round. The earliest a player could switch is between rounds one and two. Agreed. I'm glad to see I was mistaken and playing with the wrong clubs is just like never playing at all. I thought DQ/2 strikes for sure. This is better.

I don't know the fine detail of how the TGC Tours system works, but in my opinion for a genuine mistake like Tomato's if he raises the issue and it can be seen he's only played one shot with the wrong clubs then the DQ demotion marks could be cancelled. He won't be able to play the event this week as a result but that's less a punishment than a DQ for a genuine error on his part. Tour admin have the final say of course. I know I'm comparing apples to toasters, but IRL, if you play one hole with 15 clubs but don't realize it 'til later, you're out. That's totally incorrect, for each hole you play with 15 clubs it's a two stroke penalty. The rules of golf can be complicated but please don't inform wrong information.

That reminds me of when Ian Woosnam lost the Open Championship by one shot having picked up a two shot penalty in the final round because he played the first hole with 15 clubs in his bag.
