Opening on January 16, 2019 on the 200th anniversary of the original lakeside settlement is Old Henry’s Shipyard GC, a championship golf course on the shores of Lake Superior.
The course makes its way over the rocky terrain along the lake and up and down the bluffs overlooking the town. At just over 7600 yards, it can play tough in the worst conditions, but with a helping wind, the course can be tamed. The greens are fast and firm, as are the fairways. The shipyard and docks are still in service taking in shipments of everything from food to cars making it a vital port for the upper Midwest. The town is still small and quaint, and although isolated, it now hosts one of the most challenging and beautiful golf courses in Wisconsin. /fiction
On a personal note, the course is named after my grandfather Henry Gunsaullus who loved the upper Midwest as much as I do and was a great carpenter and fisherman. After 30+ years working for Greyhound, he and my grandmother moved from Skokie, IL to Stuart, FL in 1973. He kept his passion for the Cubs, though, and every time we spoke on the phone we always made time for Cubs’ talk. Henry Gunsaullus 1908-1996 A few interesting things: The course was originally going to be an "out and back" design, but the routing made it all the way back to the clubhouse (almost) at hole #8. Hence the halfway house there instead of #9. The last par 5 on the course is #12 so take advantage. There is a stretch of holes from #8 through #12 that has 3 par 5s. - In very high winds, the course can play brutally long. Despite the length of the par 5s (2 over 600), any one of them is reachable in the right conditions.
Thanks for playing, and good luck!

I'll be sure to put on some Gordon Lightfoot when I play this later in some high winds (my game has been pretty Edmund Fitzgerald-y lately).

I chose high winds and southeast. Northwest I think will make this course much easier. After my playthrough I can say that this is a course you don't want to be up against. This is top quality upper echelon design here. Won't be surprised to see this on pga one day, it checks all the boxes.
Edit. Northwest is not easier, different is all

Very nice effort, Chuck.
Nice flow throughout and definitely had that South Shore of Superior vibe to is, speaking as someone who's only a couple hours' drive away from Gitche Gumee.
Good luck in the contest!

Aaannndddd BOOM! A perfect example of a "pool B" designer serving notice that "labels" mean absolutely nothing. I'm guessing there will be two pool A designers that won't be happy to see this one in their group.

WOW, just WOW! ... what a gem of a course ... glad I got a chance to finally play it. Thanks for making such a well designed course. I am totally impressed ... many should fear this one for sure! And CART PATHS too! .... of which, I used one totally to my advantage ... think it was hole 15 or, 16 ...
