Welcome to the internal struggle that is real between 7 golfers trying to battle their way out of CC-F while berating their brains out in the most neighborly way. Brief recap of the first 9 weeks: Wisdom Bay hosted week one where Wade Wilson @sirwade59 bested the a limited field of 4 with a score of -27. Will Marquez PaKaLoLo77 pipped Jeff Bellune jeffbdvs by one to take second -22 to -21. Hank McShank finished under par as slacker Arthur Vandelay Art Vandelay failed to show up and took a DNP. The Troop traveled to Steamshovel Golf Club for week 2 where Wilson went back to back as his -28 narrowly edged McShank by 1. Marquez finished 8 shots back and Vandelay made his season debut with a pitiful +1 effort. Bellune saw the brochure for Steamshovel and decided to use the week touring with his family of adopted blue-headed lizards. Next stop was Zilker Park, named after Herbert "The Milker" Zilker, world renown for his ability to milk almonds. Marquez dominated the field, with his -22 winning by 5 strokes over Travis Sailer travistock7, who was making is first start of the campaign. Further adrift were Wilson (-13), McShank (-11), the returning Bellune (-2) and the struggling Vandelay (+6). Arthur could be heard in the clubhouse later muttering something about a mouse and a swing or something of that nature. Fella looked and sounded lost. Serenity Canyons welcomed the blokes next. During the event an older gentleman followed Vandelay shouting "SERENITY NOW! SERENITY NOW!" before authorities could escort him off the course. This did not help Vandelay (level par) but it seems nothing can at this point. Sailer had his break-thru event, shooting -24 to best the rest by 5 strokes. Bellune (-19) showed top form, followed by Wilson (-11) and Marquez (-6) who seem to have celebrated at Zilker's karaoke bar and discotheque into the wee hours after his victory last week and his game showed it this week. McShank (+3) brought up the rear, at one point fighting off coyotes near the 15th green. Not far from Serenity Canyon was are next venue, The Members Course at Orchard Lake. A battle royale ensued between 2-time champ Wilson and Jeff "Don't mention my Lizards" Bellune. A knotted affair was settled on the 15th in the 4th round when the unflappable Wilson committed his only error of the back nine and bogeyed the hole, handing Bellune the championship. Way down the table were Sailer (-13), a surprising finish by Vandelay (-12), Marquez (-11) and McShank (-1) who seem to be still suffering from coyote fever and had to take on more fluids than normal. Week 6 saw the venue shift to Pelion Marsh where the most remarkable happened: Arthur Vandelay won. Vandelay's -12 proved to be the lowest winning score, and ended in the rest of F-Troop wondering what exactly happened. Marquez (-10), Wilson (-8) were not far off, but Bellune (+2), McShank (+3) and Sailer (+14) spent more time in the proshop restocking the golf ball supplies than making birdies. Ute Forrest Country Club proved to be just the cure for poor scoring. All the F-Troopers were under par, led by McShank (-37) snagging his first win of the season by 2 shots clear of Sailer who made a great bounce back from Pelion Marsh. Wilson (-29). Marquez (-22), heck even Vandelay (-7) made the game look easier than it did last week. Bellune took the week off to attend a lizard expo, bet he is sorry he missed the birdiefest! Another low scoring affair followed Ute Forrest at The Club at Spion Knop. This was the first event where all of F-Troop finished double digits under par. Greg "Comet" Fordyce, playing in his third event of the year but making his CC-F debut thanks to a victory on Planet Z and fast tracking thru the G League, and Hank McShank finished tied at -26. Hank birdied the second playoff hole to claim his second victory in F-Troop. Sailer missed the playoff by one shot despite a furious birdie-birdie-birdie finish. Marquez (-19), Wilson (-17) and Bellune (-13) rounded out the scoring, while Vandelay took the week off to record his third yodeling CD "Live at the 8th Street Fluff n Fold". Week 9 and it was off to Blunderbuss, a fine new track from swimsuit model turned course architect CiB0RG. Anew scoring record was set as the 5 F-Troopers that teed it up shot a combined -141 (Bellune had a DNP, rumored to be showing a prize lizard in the Lafayette Lizard Show, as did Fordyce who was attending the grand opening of his new fake Hawaiian restaurant, The Hokey Poke). Travis Sailer (-34) started the week smokin' with an outward -8 29 in round 1, cruising to a 4 shot win over Wad Wilson. Tightly bunched albeit a few strokes back were McShank (-27). Marquez (-24) and Vandelay (-24). All the stats are below in the link. Tune back in next week for the recap of F-Troop at Maeze Park North. Until then, stay classy you F'ers! I like that spread sheet you have there Glad to see another rivalry starting to prosper and have fun! It is a masterpiece that I have mucked up. The original is much better. Hizzoner displaying self-effacing honesty? How refreshing for a politician! Now if we can only get him to take down the leftover campaign posters all over town... NB: Art said he was the "self-appointed" Mayor. That's not exactly true. A quick look through the official ballot boxes in his living room revealed that 6 people actually bothered to vote. The vote was write-in only, and I thought it was odd that his name was written in the same handwriting on every ballot. Four of the ballots had names scratched out and Art's name added underneath. The members of F-Troop apparently had a hard time deciding for whom to vote. Anyway, the spreadsheet isn't as bad as Art pretends. The Mayor did a fine job with it.

Week 10 RecapMaeze Park (North) played host to this weeks F-Troop battle. All the usual players were there - Wade Wilson @sirwade59, Captain of the CC-F team prepping for battle with CC-E; Art Vandelay Art Vandelay, Mayor of F-ville; Will Marquez PaKaLoLo77, winner in week 3; Hank McShank hankmcshank, winner in weeks 7 & 8; last weeks' winner Travis Sailer travistock7; Greg Fordyce gregfordyce returning from his restaurant grand opening and, making his F-Troop debut, Christopher Wren bigmclarge. Only F'er missing was Jeff Bellune jeffbdvs who was rumored to be attending the lizard breeders conference in Las Vegas. What happens there.... Round 1 Marquez came out firing on all cylinders, carding a front nine 28 on his way to an opening 58. Wren stood three back, while Wilson and Fordyce were one shot further adrift. Round 2 Marquez follows up his epic round one with a clean 63 to lead thru 36 holes at -23. Wren fired a second straight 61 to stand one shot back, followed by Fordyce (-21) then Wilson (-20). Round 3 Marquez kept his lead with a 62 to stand at -33 thru 54 holes. Wren fell one shot further back as did Fordyce after both carded 63s. McShank made a move on Moving Day by firing a 3 eagle 28 on the front on his way to a 60 to stand at -27. Round 4 This came down to a two horse race as Wren stumbled out of the gate and the rest were just too far back to contend with Marquez and Fordyce (although Sailer and McShank both carded 61s in the final round). The tourney was decided on the front nine, where Marquez had been so dominant during the first three rounds. Dropped shots on 6 and 8 proved fatal, as Marquez saw his three shot lead turn into a two shot deficit. A 2 shot swing on 11 evened things up, but Fordyce came up clutch on 16 with a birdie where Marquez could only manage par. Fordyce wins week 10 with -41, one clear of Marquez. Their spectacular play earned them promotions to the next level and honorary discharges from F-Troop. Congrats Gents, we will miss you. Come back next week and see how the F-Troop handles the challenge at Campbells Run. Until then, keep going low you F'ers!

Back from my lizard thing in Vegas. Got in a practice round at Campbell's Run. Too bad it didn't count. -8 overall; -5 on the back nine with an eagle and -3 on the front nine with a bogey. 50% one-putts and 28 putts total.
Yeah, like I'm going to repeat that when it counts tomorrow.

WEEK 11 RECAP - CAMPBELLS RUN Perfect attendance for the F-Troopers this week. We had two graduate to CC-E ( gregfordyce & PaKaLoLo77) and welcome newcomer to the struggle Jeff Freeman zzfr33b1rdzz. This course is a classic, been around for at least two seasons (that's as far as my memory goes folks). Round 1 Featured pairing here was Vandelay and McShank, playing together and combining for -11 on the outward half! Bellune and Freeman also shot 31 and the F-Troop together were 26 under par on the front. Back nine showed it's teeth, yielding three doubles and a quad as the F-Troop was 13 strokes worse. Bellune carded a clean 62 featuring 3 eagles include one of the deuce variety. Jeff is two shots clear of McShank, followed by Vandelay (66). Wren is another shot back followed by Wilson and Freeman (68 each). Sailer struggled to and opening 70, leaving much work to do. Round 2 The wind kicked up and proved to be more of a challenge. First round leader Bellune struggled to an even par 72. Wren and Freeman also shot in the 70s. Only Vandelay had a bogey free front nine, but he barely made it in with bogeys on the last three holes. McShank had the round of the day, 63 and that even had 2 bogeys. Hank is the leader after 36 holes at -17, a massive seven shots clear of Wilson, Bellune and Vandelay. Sailer (-8), Wren (-7) and Freeman (-5) round out the board. Can anyone catch McShank? Round 3 Wren came out firing on moving day, going sub 30 on the front in carding a clean 59. Vandelay matched the 59, and Hizzoner could be seen spraying the locker-room with the cheapest champagne to celebrate his first ever sub 60 tour round. Sailer continued his improvement with a bogey free 61, while Bellune also managed blemish-free 64. The same can't be said for the rest: Wilson's 70 was not his best, but Freeman and second round leader McShank could not break par. This allowed Vandelay to take the 54 hole lead at -23, followed by Wren (-20), the surging Sailer (-19) and Bellune (-18). Wilson watched McShank free-fall past him, and Freeman struggled on the back nine. Round 4 With four golfers within 5 shots, round 4 looked like we might have lots of fireworks. This field narrowed after nine as Vandelay increased his lead over Wren to 5 at the turn. Although all four competitors shot in the 60s, Vandelay would not choke as is the Vandelay Way. Art claimed his second F-Troop victory with a score of -33. Seven shots back was Wren, followed by Sailer. Tune in next week and see how our rag tag group of golfers fare at the Plains of Africa course. Until then, get your immunizations updated, we are going on safari you F'ers!

WEEK 12 RECAP - Plains of Africa Tour ED
The private F-Jet winged our F-Troopers across lots of water to do battle on the Plains of Africa course. None of the big five we spotted, but there were plenty of birds seen.
Round 1
Jeff Bellune raced out to an early advantage with a near perfect card of 58, 4 pars and 14 birdies. Five shots back were last weeks winner Art Vandelay and Hank McShank followed by Travis Sailer (66), Chris Wren (68) and Wade Wilson (69). Jeff Freeman, struggling with jet lag and a bad reaction to local cuisine, carded a 78.
Round 2
Vandelay continued his hot play of late by carding a 62 in round 2 despite his first bogey in about 3 rounds. Art took a one shot lead over Bellune, who followed up his stellar 58 with a mere mortal 68. These two had some separation from the field, as Sailer was alone in third but a full 5 shots adrift of second. Several F'ers improved from round 1 to round 2, but nobody turned it around like Freeman. Jeff's scintillating 63 featured an eagle on 17 and the 15 stroke improvement set an F-Troop record.
Round 3
Chris Wren made moving day his own, firing a bogey free 59 featuring a back nine 28 sealed with an eagle two on 18. Not far behind was the suddenly capable Art Vandelay, also going without a dropped shot while shooting 61 and opening up a six shot lead over Jeff Bellune. Wren was one shot back of Bellune, and the rest of the F-Troop was at least 7 shots behind Chris. Would this be a cakewalk for Art? Or would Jeff or Chris catch fire and over take him? Could one of the others have a historic final round and storm back for the win?
Round 4
The course showed it's teeth on the final round as only Wilson (34) and Wren (35) managed an under par score on the outward half. Wren surged into second as Bellune had his putter go cold. Vandelay looked comfortable until bogeys on 7, 8 & 9 cast doubt on whether he could close the deal. Wren was still 6 back, but was playing with confidence.
Playing a group ahead of Vandelay, Wren took advantage of another bogey by Art to cut the lead to three through 12. Vandelay could not put away the persistent Wren until his eagle-birdie finish decided things. Vandelay's 5 shot win is his second in a row and third of the F-Troop competition. Wren, in only his third F-Troop event, recorded his second consecutive runner-up finish. Surely his time is coming soon. Bellune cooled off in round 4 but still secured a third place finish.
Tune in next week when Turnbridge CC hosts the next event in the F-Troop Battle. Until then, stay classy you F'ers!

WEEK 13 RECAP - Turnbridge CC
F-Troop took their battle to Turnbridge CC, but the scores made it look like Turnbridge was no push over. Save maybe one F'er.
Round 1
All seven players were within 6 shots at the turn, then Chris Wren provided some separation. Wren completed a bogey free round with 7 birdie 28 on the back for an opening -12 60. Art Vandelay and Hank McShank were 3 adrift with the other 4 golfers another 5 shots behind second place.
Round 2
Jeff Freeman was the only F'er to get the best of Turnbridge in round 2, where his 63 vaulted him into contention. Freeman jumped to second place 3 shots back of Wren. Vandelay was 4 while McShank, Jeff Bellune, Wade Wilson and Travis Sailer were all at least 4 shots back of Art.
Round 3
Moving Day was just made for Wren (64) and Freeman (65). Four F'ers spend the day moving in the wrong direction, shooting in the 70's. As Wren opened up a 4 shot advantage through 54 holes, Vandelay came to the 18th tee with a chance to play his way into the final pairing. Thanks to a 4-putt triple bogey finish, Art could be heard using some colorful language with the tournament setup committee about the pin placement on that last green.
Round 4
What began as a two horse race became a runaway early. Chris Wren expanded his 4 shot lead over Jeff Freeman to nine thanks mostly to a front nine 30. Freeman continued to push Wren, cutting 2 strokes off the lead but Wren would not be caught. His 7 shot victory equaled the biggest margin so far in the F-Troop competition. Freeman's -26 finish doubled his score in relation to par over the previous two events, quite a great improvement and second place alone is his best finish.
Next week Blue Maiden G&CC host the F-Troop along with the added spice of the concurrent running of the Iron Cup competition with the E'nemies. It is sure to be epic golf every step of the way! Until then, stay classy you F'ers!

Great playing bigmclarge ! Hope you bring that to our team event. I really struggled this week with the putter and got short sided a couple times too. Should've grinded harder in the final round but was disinterested and got a down arrow by a couple strokes. Looking for a big bounce back this week.

I wish I could say I brought the same game into this week, but not happening so far. I've played my first 2 rounds, and the best I could muster was -4 each round. Overall, not playing horrible, but I'm just not finding any magic with the putter so far on Maiden. It's not even that I'm burning the edges, I just can't put anything over 10 feet away even close to the hole. Decided I'll probably put in some more practice before I play the 3rd round. Good luck to you this week!

WEEK 14 RECAP - Blue Maiden G&CC
F-Troop visited the finely manicured fairways and greens of the Blue Maiden G&CC. Would their scorecards be filled with blue goodness? Or would the Maiden have them leave feeling, well, blue. The group has added Rob Scott, the Canadian vet who happens to be fond of goats.
Round 1
All eight players best par on the opening nine, led by Art Vandelay's bogey free 31. Art stalled a bit on the back, but still managed to to shoot a -9 63 which is good enough for a tie for the lead. Wade Wilson overcame a two early bogeys to also card a 63 thanks to a clean back nine 30. Travis Sailer, coming off his worst performance of the F-Troop season, also dropped a 30 inward and trailed the leaders by one. Rob Scott had the only bogey free round and his 65 left him two shots back.
Round 2
The conditions in round two kept scoring in check. Jeff Freeman managed the best score of the day with a 67, limiting his damage to a pair of bogeys sandwiching the turn. Vandelay claimed the 36 hole lead at -13 thanks to a 68, two shots clear of Sailer and Wilson. One further back was Scott, who carded his first bogey of the event on the 10th. Last week's winner Chris Wren carded a second consecutive 68 while Freeman (-6), Hank McShank (-3) and Jeff Bellune (+1) drifted further back as the Blue Maiden made her presence felt.
Round 3
Moving Day agreed with all the F-Troop participants as all shot in the 60s under more favorable conditions. The best scores were provided by Wren and Sailer, both carding 66 with Trevor's card not having a blemish. Sailer ascended to the 54 hole lead as second round leader Vandelay struggled to a 69 to fall one shot back. Tying Vandelay at -16 was Wilson, two shots better than Wren and Scott. With five golfers within 3 shots, the final round could get very exciting.
Round 4
With nothing to lose, Hank McShank turned in the best round of day 4 with a 64 that featured a run of seven consecutive birdies on the front nine. Although the leader Sailer had an underwhelming 35 outward, none of the chasers coudl capitalize as Trevor opened up a two shot lead over Wilson and Wren and three clear of Vandelay and Scott. Sailer then ran away from the field, completing the event without dropping a shot on the back nine all week with a Sunday 30 to post -24 for his 3rd F-Troop win. Vandelay rallied on the back nine to nip Wren for second by a shot, while Wilson held off Scott for 5th place by one stroke.
Next week F-Troop heads to the hills as Gateway to Kass Mountain hosts the competition. The Iron Cup II will be decided simultaneously, so tune in for the action. Until then you F'ers, you are looking MARvelous!
