IRON CUP DAY TWO RECAP: SINGLESMATCH 4 - @bovakian vs
hankmcshankThis match was over early and Hank found just the wrong time for his putter to go ice cold. Kendall birdied 4 thru 6 and held on for a 3 up lead after McShank birdied the 9th, going to turn the tide and gain some momentum going into the more demanding back nine.
Hank could never again find his stroke, and Kendall took advantage. David birdied 13 and 14 to win going away 5 & 4. Another point for CC-E, their lead in the Iron Cup now at 4-0.

nate94gt vs
bigmclargePerhaps the most entertaining match of the day, Wren blistered out to an early 3 up lead thanks to an unmatched birdie-par-eagle run 2 thru 4. Bloodied but not bowed, Myers got off the mat and shaved the deficit to 2 by the turn. Wren's outward 29 was real and spectacular, Nate had some work to do.
Work he did. Nate Started the outward half with back to back eagles, squaring the match and leaving Wren mumbling to himself "I got birdies! Why is that not enough?!?!" Chris then gathered his game and retook the lead with a cracking good birdie on 13. Myers dug deep, managing a match leveling birdie on 16. Neither competitor could best the other on the final two holes. Match halved. CC-F draws their first points and now trails 4.5-0.5. Although he was a hero for those F'ers. Wren was quoted in the clubhouse "Shoot, I was SURE my 59 was going to get it done!" Normally it would, but Myers' exquisite inward 28 was clutch.
MATCH 6 -
thetaffman vs
Art VandelayCC-E considered this match a walkover. Davies has been playing inspired golf, and Vandelay has been, well, Vandelayian in his play of late. The two swapped birdies on 2 and 3, and even though Art grabbed a 2 up lead at the turn with birdies on the last two holes CC-E was not worried. "We have Paulie going for us, but more importantly, the have HIM!"
But then something curious happened: Art played more like Paul and vice versa. Paul never quite got it going; Art birdied 11, 13 and 15, the last to seal a 5 & 3 win for Team F. CC-F now trails 4.5-1.5. Vandelay could be seen in the clubhouse buying rounds for all who would imbibe. Rumor is that F-ville mayoral representation funds may have been used.
MATCH 7 -
SkyBlueBen vs
jeffbdvsTough and Bellune faced off in singles a day after competing in match 3 of the four ball. Ben was quiet on day one, but not today: he roared out to a 3 up lead at the turn courtesy of timely birdies on 5, 6 and 9.
When Tough topped Bellune's birdie on 11 with an eagle to go 4 up, Jeff was counselled on the walk to the 12th tee by and exuberant(and inebriated) Vandelay and first alternate/head cheerleader
zzfr33b1rdzz who reminded Jeff of how good he can play.
Whether it was the pep-talk of the toxic breath that delivered it, Jeff responded with a vengeance. He birdied 12 and 15 to cut the lead to 2. Ben mucked up 16 and handed the hole over to Bellune. Jeff made a tricky putt for birdie on 17 to square the match. When both birdied 18 to finish all square, the tie felt victorious for the underdog F'ers. Iron Cup lead for CC-E is the same (5-2), but this one hurt the favored squad.
MATCH 8 -
Koop vs
travistock7These two also faced each other as part of a four ball the day prior when Koop lead CC-E to victory while Sailer did not hurt his team but was stuck in neutral it seemed.
Captain Koop struck early, birdieing the first for a 1 up lead. Travis showed the form that earned his spot on Team F (well, that and primarily wanting to play) by going birdie-eagle on 3 and 4 to take the lead. Jason leveled the match with a birdie on the 5th, only after this did the duel REALLY begin.
The two dueled, halving every hole thru 16, pressure building to a fever pitch and they walked to the 17th tee. Koop hit first and channeled his inner shankopotomus, missing the green by a distance that only a good pair of binoculars. Sailer took full advantage and played to the safe part of the green, 2 putt for par. Jason could not re-koop this loss. Sailer wins 1 UP, CC-F cuts into the CC-E lead 5-3. Game on, those plucky F'ers are not giving up without a fight.
MATCH 9 -
Doume6307 vs @sirwade59
Cap'n Wade took the early lead with an unmatched birdie on the par 5 4th. Team E's French Connection then got it going on, winning 7 thru 10 to basically close out the match. Wilson birdied 15 to cut it to 2, but could not muster any more heroics. Bois was too much, winning 2 UP.
Day two was a draw, both squads finishing with 3 points. CC-E still leads the Iron Cup 6-3. CC-E needs 3.5 points to secure the Iron Cup.
