After playing 3 practice rounds of -9, -12 and -9. And having at least one double booger in each round, I think the theme or frame of mind for this week should be Don’t try and be a hero And Look out for that tree (anyone remember Magilla gorilla?)
Winner this week is the guy who gets through all 4 rounds with no blow up holes. Takes advantage of a couple low risk eagle holes, and just keeps his head on straight.
It won’t be me! I have a temper, and there is no room for that on this one.

Can't believe all the complaining being done about the course, surely the best players in the world can draw/fade a little?
I'm a mid pga player at best and have no complaints, it is what it is, try and embrace it.
Don't be stupid enough to leave yourself with no shot, ie hit it a little harder or softer which ever may apply. It's the same for everyone, don't spit the dummy out, get on with it.

-9 after round 1. Awesome shooting to Mitch at -14. Damn good.
I missed a 5 footer on 2. But recovered well including some up and downs from the forest. Nice to hit some good flops for once.
As for the course...I actually like the lighting. I'm not a really big fan of courses with no water. But I enjoyed the difficulty of the course. I like the slopey greens. I just wasn't a fan of some hole locations in round 1.
A lot of what i call "ant-hill" pins. Where you have 15 feet uphill for birdie. You should be able to be aggressive. But you kinda can't because 2 feet after the hole it goes straight downhill. That's a bit silly.
However to call this a 1 star course is a little baffling. I think 80%+ of us want harder courses/conditions...we get them...and everyone loses their mind. Just a classic example of you can't please everyone.

Having pins 6 feet from the edge of the green with severe slopes taking you away from the hole on four sides, like anthills as you say. About as fun as having your testicles removed with a tent peg.

In at -47. Just couldn't get close to those pins in R4. Got stymied by trees twice around the green. Cost me a shot on 8 (easy birdie hole)... Ah well, can't complain too much. It's RCR season coming up... yay! Good luck everyone.
Edit - yea not sure why the pins are so close to the edge... I honestly chipped in or putted from the collar probably 10 times for the week. Unreal... I hadn't been chipping well of late...

Oddly like the look of the course, tournament replication aside, but the greens and pins lived up to the comments in here. It's just manufactured difficulty, but I get it, we're trying to limit scoring. My opinion, for whatever it may be worth, is that pins/greens like this don't require much strategy. It's basically all about hitting it straight and hoping you're ball stops on the top tier of the mound where the pin is. I'm all for tough courses, but I'd like to have some which reward shotmaking imagination, not just "can you hit it on this exact line, to this exact distance?"
I'm sure that'll be taken as moaning, but it's intended as constructive feedback. Again, for what it's worth, which might not be much lol
Hope I make the cut!

This is a prison camp where feedback is not allowed. It's their way or the highway. That was sort of the beauty with Kapalua last week. You didn't have to hit it to an exact yardage necessarily... you had bowls and slopes... and of course 187s lend themselves to shaping and riding the slopes. I honestly think this course would've played better with 187s because balls could funnel. I had a slew of odd shots way above the hole on mounds that would've trickled one way or another on 187s... I think the fact the course conditions can be manipulated is a dis-service to the original design of some of these tracks - the good ones and the ones we don't care for.

I like the course only as a 1 round match play course. I didnt want to play it anymore after the 1st which showed in my scoring. No b%&ing, it is what it is. A bit softer greens would have made it more enjoyable. I can’t fully loft every approach to hold the greens here. Very few can keep it in the sliver of a swing channel and if you are off a yard you are off 20.

Went to the driving range to work on things. Had it worked out pretty well as I had a practice round using CuseHokie as a ghost to guide me. Shot a nice -15, admittedly though, holed out a long one for eagle and had another chip in. All set to make my charge! I then proceeded to totally sh%$ the bed. -5 round 1. In my frustration I decided to give round 2 a go figuring things had to get better. I was wrong (of course). Had a nice double bogie on the front and was even through 9. Decided i better take a day off before completing the back nine and then on to next week. I enjoyed the course during my practice round. I also enjoyed it during the real thing. I just wasn't up to the task. Felt like I was trying to chip in from 6 yards over and over again and apparently I don't have that aspect of the game down since the last patch. Frustrated at myself, not the course!

I can only agree with Hippy, Fadge and most others...i found the whole course nothing more than a total gimmick.
Stray one tad off a perfect line and instead of being within 10ft you are rolling down the hills to 50ft, it seemed like every pin was on the top of a mound...just pointless tricking up to me.
Its nothing offensive to the designer as i know how long it takes to build these things but christ on a bike...

1/5 is a trash course that is pretty much autogen and would never get approved for the course database here, let alone be put on tour.
Get over yourself.
