I'm not too keen on the lengthening, seems quite excessive considering that most tour player's don't carry the ball 300+ on a full drive. That landing area looks to be harshly pinched. With this hole being inspired by the Road at St Andrews, why didn't they go full monty and use some of that natural front of green swale to construct a deep bunker guarding? I think that would have been a much more interesting change.

When the ball rolls back down the swale most players putt the ball rather than chipping, pitching or flopping it. If you had a deep road hole bunker in front it would obviously force that shot. Secondly, road buinkers are very deep and quite small, usually a pot style bunker. I'm not suggesting that they build a deep grass face bunker, but they could build a deep sand face bunker that would be very tricky to get out of if you're up against the face of it. Let it sit a good 6-7ft below the surface, maybe more...

I think the previous hole was a pretty routine 3 wood short of the bunkers, then short iron for the pros. It doesn't really matter what's in front of the green there if you are wedging it in. On the other hand, the hole must of been doing something right, because it routinely averaged around the 6th toughest hole most years, I believe.
I will say if the new hole looks like the sketch, then a 3 wood or less layup might be at least a mid iron in now, so the decision off of the tee is no longer a no brainer. However, I do still think that given a choice, most pros would take a shot out of a front bunker there rather than dealing with a putt that is dramatically uphill, and then downhill (for the front pin locations).

Exactly. For those of us who have seen the course in person, it's very difficult to describe just how severe that slope on the front of the green is. Judging speed there is just a guessing game except for the elite of the elite. I guarantee most tour players would prefer a bunker shot there.

True that, about seeing it in person. Obviously I've only ever seen it on TV. Seen how pro's putt up that swale as though it's not much of a task, maybe they don't show the bad takes lol. I'd be suggesting the bunker along with extra length. I'd imagine pro's are hitting 7/8 irons from behind those bunkers so making them pull out a 5/6 I'm in favour of.

I'll double check but I think there may have been a short right bunker there when the course first opened. 11 and 18 also had centerline bunkers and 7 was bunkerless and drivable (it was inspired by 18 at the old course).

Should be a rule against bumping up this thread unless the course has been released! got all excited for a moment!

Hmmmmmmm I'm going to dig the 360 out soon and load up 1935 Augusta. Haven't played it in years.

Well I intended to post some pictures tonight, but it would seem that m screenshot feature now doesn't work. Not sure of the cause, but hopefully I can get it sorted out down the line, maybe just needs a restart.
Anyways, holes 4-8 are updated since my last post. So in theory I just need to fix the planting and add tournament stuff for 9-18.

Sorry I didn't bother with pictures again. Made it through Amen Corner, the 14th hole, and just finishing up tournament objects and crowds on the 15th. Should be a fairly quick finish, followed by lots of playtesting.
