I decided to do the entire Challenge Circuit. With a total of 1,473 participants here is the breakdown; Master - 606 (41%) Pro - 652 (44%) Beginner - 215 (15%) So of the 215 using beginners, what's the scoring average? Average finish? Number getting promotion/demotion marks? Well I was going to gather the data for this, even though it is more work than I care to do lol. I started last night on the CC-A group and will post their results below. When I got up this morning and started to look at the data they have already posted R1 results for the new tournament. But here is the data for CC-A with 42 players using beginner clubs. Scoring avg. was -19.95, avg. finish was 93.57, Promotions were 0 and Demotions were 10.

Thanks for pointing out your club selection guys. Didn’t really think much of it after the server patch and had the same set. Put the 2w instead of 3w, the 2H for the 3H and put the 3i in the bag and took out the 4i. Feels more well rounded for my play especially with the longer clubs. This week of practice at Steamshovel seems wide open off the tee. But need to place the approach shot in the right places. When I did, I could read the greens a bit more and more decisive on breaks. Long week at work and a little swing change so we’ll see how this week goes. Good luck all! Which club set you gonna go with Wade? No peer pressure lol. Play what you have the most fun with 🤙🏽 Good Luck PaKa! I think I'm going to try the Master set. I think I will experiment with D,2W,2H,5H and 5I thru Putter and see how it goes. With Master I have the most problems with pitching, chipping and flops. It is hard to get the P/P on the swing and when I miss it really throws my shot way off lol. Wade

Guess we knew the promo number in CC-A for that group, but a bit surprised by the average finish. Combine that with the scoring average and you get nothing for a lot.

I was surprised as well. I read about a lot of discussion on club sets that are used in the upper CC divisions. I also saw a comment from one of the admins that they should have grouped players by the choice of club that they use. They mentioned doing that for next season. Maybe they could implement a handicap factor for the different club sets. At the end of the day it's about having fun. But I can also see that people want to compete and if they use a harder club set it makes it much more difficult. I also see a lot of random demotions on R1. I'm not sure how that works. Maybe someone chipped on a green when they should have putted? I'm new to all this so trying to learn. I did decide to go with the Master set. It is so much more challenging and a lot more pressure lol. Being nervous and trying to get that P/P doesn't mix well lol. Good Luck in your rounds! Wade

Wade, what you're seeing next to some of the names on the leaderboard are the promo or demo marks those players recieved from wk 1. Get 5 green marks, you promote up a flight, 5 red and you demote down a flight. The rules section for promotions and demotions goes over this. They are referred to as movement marks.
Hope that helps..

Practiced last couple of days with master clubs and was averaging -7, shot round 1 at +1 and round 2 at -2, so I had to stop out frustration. Will look to rebound with R3, hoping to just stay out of the demotion mark range at this point! Good luck to you as well!

When I'm playing a casual round I do much better. When I play in the tournament the pressure really messes with my swing lol.

This is such an interesting course. Played round 1 and left a lot out there. It looks so simple and easy but you really gotta be careful where you leave your shots.

Struggled to start off R1. Was +3 thru the first few holes and really wasn’t feeling it at all. Took a break and came back on the back nine and finished off the first at -2.
R2 started off with a bang and birdies the first three holes. Felt like where my approach shots landed I could get a good read off the slopes of the greens. Putter felt like it was on fire this round. That or it felt like it was smash the driver off the tee which left wedges into the greens for numerous holes. In my opinion, a bit repetitive on this course but a chance to work getting the yardages right with the all my wedges. Two bogeys and a few birdie chances that just missed and this could’ve been a really good round. Ended up at -8 and thru two rounds at -10.

Okay, so after playing a lot of hybrids and Beginner Clubs the first week, and ending up with -28 after collapsing in the last two rounds...
I played this week's tournament with Pro Clubs, just one hybrid in the bag (2H), switching from 3W to 2W and the rest irons and all wedges, and guess what: I ended up with -36 (-13, -9, -6, -8).
Will continue using Pro Clubs for the next few tournaments and if I switch again, it will be to Master Clubs; no more Beginner Clubs for me!
Good luck to all this week,
Frans

I saw your name at the top of the leaderboard. I tried Master clubs and shot -4 -10 -9 -5 and ended up with a -28. After experimenting with clubs I played with D, 2W, 5W, 5H and 5I thru LW and putter. I really had to focus with Master clubs. I haven't decided if I will stay with Master or switch back to Pro for the next tournament. Wade

First F-er round of the season. Started well, clean outward half of -3.
Birdied 10, then the wheels fell off going bogey-par-double-double to give all back and then one.
Shaken but not broken, parred the next three and birdied 18 to finish at level par.
This will only get me on the fast track to the G-League, must get going.
Onward!

I have kept silent on the Master/Pro/Beginner club debate until now as i was willing to give it a chance. I was hoping to keep my mouth shut on it for a few weeks more but i have to jump in at this point.
I can see the arguments for the current status quo and the inclusive nature of the Tours have made allowance for Beginner/Pro club users to compete. However, what those arguments ignore or fail to take into account, is the lack of inclusivity afforded to those who want to compete in the challenge circuit with the ambition of playing one day on one of the pro tours. I am one of those people (possible delusion) and therefore i use Masters clubs as this is the way up.
I dont think that the current set up is very inclusive towards me as my leaderboard is going to be populated by those using easier club sets. We are competing. Why should those with an advantage be allowed to compete as such? If they were manipulating the cone and swing themselves they would be disqualified so why should they be allowed to manipulate their performance by using baby clubs. Would it be fair for a rider to turn up at the Speedway with stabilisers on his bike?
I am in CCF. I had a nightmare at St. Bede's in qualifying. I am not good enough to be in the top 450 players. But i want a fair competition and to compete. Seeing someone shoot -17 in a round on beginner's clubs is not a fair competition. So, in the rush to make this as inclusive as possible for all, TGC Tours may lose the likes of me, the honest player, from their ranks as there is simply no point trying to compete. Baby clubs will always win. And CCA will be a mess in 10-15 weeks time with it full of the baby clubs -18 per round crew.
I genuionely think that this situation needs to be amended. You want to compete? Then use Masters clubs.

If would be better in my opinion if they could group players by their club choice and then skill level. They made a big announcement last night concerning beginner clubs. Here is what they said: Summary 1. ALL CC-Tours restricted to Master/Pro clubs only 2. Pro club users on CC-A will now receive promotion marks, but if promoted will have to use Master on Web (top 20 pro/master clubs) 3. New Tour (Beginner) created and restricted to Beginner clubs only - mirrors CC-Am schedule. 4. Anyone playing Beginner clubs on week 4 will be DQ'ed with no marks (like fair play dqs). Any player can choose to the beginner tour at anytime by choosing this option in their profile. 5. In Promotion Event #1 - anyone using Beginner Clubs will be removed/ignored Timeline Week 3 1. Notice/email/Announcements made Week 4 1. Anyone playing Beginner clubs on week 4 will be DQ'ed with no marks (like fair play dqs). Any player can choose to go to the beginner tour at anytime by choosing this option in their profile. 2. Promotion Event #1 - anyone using Beginner Clubs will be removed/ignored Week 5 1. Beginner Tour (with no marks) starts 2. CC-A:Z (master/pro clubs only) or DQ 3. Fast Track CC-Am promotions based on a standard deviation formula compared to avg-score of the field during promotion finalization. 4. Q-school registration will include an option to go straight to Beginner tour or register for Q-School with Master/Pro clubsets only. 5. Anyone playing the weekly Q-School on beginners clubs will be given a Beginner tour card and be sent an email. 6. Players promoted to the Web.com tour will not be demoted until they have fully completed a minimum of 3 events
