Zilker is kinda lame. All open. A few sand hazards here and there. I get that the cc-am courses are supposed to be easy but this one takes that to another level. I've only been here for 5 minutes, joined in September and I am loathe to start criticizing anything at this wonderful place but I have to agree, I thought the opening course of the CCAM tour was very good, there were some good risk and reward holes and it was a nice looking course, Steamshovell was a different challenge a little bland in places but Zilker does indeed take blandness to another level, also Zilker and Steamshovell have no stroke index, is this because not many people have played them ? I am new as well (first post) so I like to hold my opinions back. Just like to say I am loving the game, the community, and the tournaments! Thank you to everyone.
I have to completely agree with you. I'm not sure about the stroke index tho.. Steamshovel started out pretty bland but did get better throughout. Being an easy course, wow was it frustrating missing easy shots! lol I haven't given Zilker a play yet, maybe after my last 2 rounds of steamshovel tonight I'll check it out.
I also can't wait for beginner clubs to be on their own. Excited for the week 4 changes to happen and have everyone get settled in. Pro clubs are easy enough people. My dog could swing beginner clubs on the controller =X

AFAIK they have no stroke index as they hadn't had enough plays (need 500 plays or something before they are) I think Zilker had 53 when I went on last night. I'd hazard that Steamshovel is now HCP rated and has an SI, as it should easily have picked up the required plays over all the flights.

The greens at Zilker Park are small, and to score well, you need to approach from the best angle. The openness of the course should make it easy to recover from bad shots.
Also, please keep in mind that these courses have to be selected several weeks in advance to give us time to have our rangers check them for excessive slopes. The courses you are playing the first 4 weeks were tested and scheduled prior to the ball flight, spin and roll-out changes.

I will only add that I'd love to see some tougher courses come through the Amateur tour in the coming months because with most of us using Pro clubs, it could only make the scores more realistic - at worst. Thanks for your efforts regardless.

Well, my first shot of round four went out of bounds, setting up a 6. Focused in and birdied 8 of my next nine holes before a slip up on 10 with a bogey. Eagled 18 to finish off the week with -11 and -39 overall. Super proud of the week overall, but can't help but shake my head at some of the strokes I left on the board that would've put me in serious contention.
Also, doing my first official play through of Zilker and I can't stand the course. I'm sorry, but this is nothing like a real course and a bit insulting. I understand the idea, but disagree wholeheartedly with the selection. I'll try to get it to grow on me but my last post stands.

It's completely fine that some people don't like the course. I don't see how its selection is "insulting."
Zilker is very much a concept course, but it adheres to basic strategies of golf and allows - even encourages - players to be creative in their approach to each hole.
It'll be back to a more traditional layout the next week.

I guess, what I want to convey is that most of us in this league can hit a fairway, it's the putting game that really sets us apart.

A significant portion of CC-Am are people who struggle with consistency, or are people who are going to be pushed off Beginner Clubs. Zilker is about angles and approaches, so placement in the fairway will be a factor. The course just eliminates the risk of having anything worse than an A- lie for the approach.

Well, lousy finish at The Norwegian BluuuuuuE, R4 (73) swing tempo awful, and forgot to change my putter from baseball bat mode to putter mode on a few occasions. -5 for the tourney. I hope to avoid a v, we'll see.

Currently square into 10th position with a few guys left to go. Thrilled to only be 6 shots off the lead knowing the wimp of a round one I had.
This next week will be interesting with the holiday as I'm going to attempt to play on my PC. Driving is easier for me, but putting is more sensitive. Not expecting much!

Decided to power through Zilker today ahead of the holiday week.
+4 (really shook me and almost rage quit after a triple bogey on 9) -1 (less mistakes, but still too many missed putts) -5 (a few missed putts from a real gem of a round) -7 (put together an almost mistake free round, including an albatross on 2; left a couple strokes out there, but super happy with this recovery)
Into the clubhouse at -9. Sad thing is I finally figured out Zilker in R3, just wish I couldve gotten a redo on R1-2. Hoping I'm safe from demotion marks. Last week, -7's were projected in demotion mark terrority, so hoping that the tougher course will give me even more breathing room.

I've nearly thrown my controller a few times lol. Looking like I'll have to wait until after Turkey Day to complete my rounds. I'll check back and let you guys know how it goes. GOOD LUCK THIS WEEK!
