FYI, the tournaments you're seeing them in CC-A are actually their Q School rounds. Not sure why it's displayed that way. Ok. Still doesn't seem likely that you shoot -1 for Q school then straight to top 20 in CC-Z with -10 rounds. Seems like players re-register for Q school go to CC-Z even if they are good players. Since I don't have access to all the stats, i can only go by what I see. I see many top flight players playing in CC-Z. I'm currently -13 after 3 rounds. No where near top 20, closer to 100. How can so many players be in CC-Z can be -13 in 18-27 holes? CC-z is the lowest skill tier isn't it? I understand what you're saying. I guess it could depend on what course they had to play for Q school. If I had done Q school at Augusta, I'd be in Z. However, I don't doubt at all that there are people that hang out in Z cause they know they'll fail against equal competition.

I didn't think I was doing great, like top 25, but I thought at least I was kinda doing good hoping for a bit above the average. I mean, -2, -3, E after three is a good score FOR ME.
Looked at the scores posted this morning. Instead of around 70ish where I was hoping, I'm at 140 in danger of two red marks.

Unreal, this is lowest level tour and you need to be -30 to sniff the top 25. There really is no place here for the casual player that wants to feel like there is fair competition. Many of the top 25 have previously qualified and played in higher rated tours, but somehow find their way back to CC-Z to dominate top 25.

Here's a quick look at fair play. This player scored -30 for current tournament. Is that even possible based on this history?

I haven't used Master clubs. Since they are grouped with Pro Clubs, is there any benefit to using them? If I can't reach top 20 with Pro Clubs, not sure what I would gain from Master clubs. I really see no way for me to ever be a top 20 scorer with the current set-up. I finshed -13 and I'm in 101 st place.

They are way harder. The distances that you can hit the ball with them is further, but its exponentially harder to hit them straight, consistently.
beginner, pro, master, is like easy, normal, hard difficulty settings.
For me, its personal choice. I played pro clubs in TGC2, and every time I would try the master ones, I was turned off because I couldn't hit them. I finally realized that there was no way I was going to learn to play with them, if I didn't actually play with them. so when it changed to TGC19, I decided to switch, and stick with master clubs, no matter how bad I did. I actually like them a lot better. I like getting the extra distance.
Only reason I've decided to record my placing vs. other master club users is I just want to know how I would do, competing apples to apples, against other people. I have no doubt that I would place way higher if I were in a division that everyone played the same clubs as I am. But since thats not an option, I just decided to figure it out myself, and record it for my own benefit.

Hopefully with the change in requirements to be placed in Z via Q school, and this week's promotion event some of the complaints about players bring far too skilled for Z will be alleviated. A big thing I noticed is in the promotion event thread it's stated the ideal field size is 140, but there are 214 people in Z currently. This is likely playing a big part in the scoring gap between the top and bottom of the tier.

Well this may be a timely post but after two tournaments in cc-z posting -23 and -24 finishing T13th and T14th I got notified that I got bumped up to CC-G.
I think that peacock who also posts here is in the same boat.
So I guess the system works? I only had the one promotion mark after the first comp.

First, some background. I'm brand new to this game. The recent Masters tournament on TV got me excited to get a serious golf game and this was clearly the one. Then somehow I found the subreddit for this game and then somehow found this society.
Let me just say that this society/online gaming has the potential to be the best online sports gaming experience hands-down (and likely already is for many players already). I mean, beautiful custom courses, 72-hole tournaments, scoreboards, different leagues based on players' ability so competition is fair, and a generally beautiful and serious golf game?! Good God, this is incredible. Being able to play a solid sports video game in this way would have been unfathomable a few years ago.
However, I want to echo what others have said about CC-Z not being competitive. I know it's already been stated and a lot of people already know, but this really is the biggest issue I think with the organization of this society.
I'm brand new and played my first Q-school just this week. I had played about 10 rounds previously and had played TW golf in my PS2 days so I'm not completely green.
However, I can't begin to tell you how frustrating/disappointing it is to look at the leaderboards for past CC-Z tournaments. After being soooo excited to start playing online against other people with my skill level, I learn that that it's going to be close to impossible to play with people of my skill level unless I commit to spend dozens of hours practicing and honing my game.
Don't get me wrong, the game is great and I'm sure I will get to that point eventually, but is it really asking too much to be able to play against people that have a similar skill level as me when I start out? Isn't that the entire point of having leagues/divisions in the first place, so that things can be somewhat competitive and players are competing against people of their same skill level?
First, there are 200+ people in some CC-Z tournaments. This seems quite high and would likely open up the opportunity to create another league/level, which would automatically help things it would seem (more levels theoretically mean more even competition).
Second, after picking a random Z tournament, the difference between 50th and 150th (50 spots from the top and about 50 spots from the bottom. In other words, your typical above average player in this league and below average player in this league, or the 25th percentile and 75th percentile) in these tournaments is 25 strokes. There is simply no way for beginners to be competitive at all, or feel like they're competing against people similar to them.
On the other hand, let's take a random tournament from another league and compare its competitiveness between the above average and below average player (I think this is a pretty good way to determine parity, instead looking at the highest and lowest score, for instance):
I looked at a random tournament from the D league, which had 169 participants. The 25th percentile shot -24, and the 75th percentile shot -11, for a difference of 13 strokes, which means that the D league is TWICE as competitive as the Z league (again, when looking at the 25th/75th percentile).
A lot of the responses to posts like these are along the lines of "well, if you're shooting +5 for the tournament, you shouldn't be competing." However, this completely misses the point of having leagues in the first place, and also makes the game for newcomers much less enjoyable.
Also, let's be real, we're talking about the Z league. Who really thinks the top two dozen scores in this league should be -20? This is literally supposed to be the bottom league.
I realize players get better as they practice, and there are always going to be really low rounds here and there simply because newbies suddenly find their groove and figure it out (which is also why I looked at the 25th and 75th percentile instead of looking at top and bottom scores, because there are going to be players that become amazing in the Z league, but they shouldn't be in the 25th percentile, they should be in the top 10). But it seems like there has to be a simple solution to this.
Again, I can't emphasize enough how awesome this game and specifically this community/website is. It really does take online sports gaming to a new level. But the entire point of having leagues is to have players of the same/similar skill level competing against each other. It seems like there has to be a solution that can make the CC-Z league more level, thus increasing the excitement and engagement of newbies and people that only play the game a couple hours/week, benefitting the entire community of players.
Thanks for reading.

Thanks for reading. I think you’re probably going to change your mind in a few weeks when you hone your game a little. There’s a promotion event happening right now that will thin the ranks in Z for the next event. You’ll be surprised how steep the learning curve is. Having played TW is a definite help. There’s lots of hints and tips around, but watching some of the top guys playing on twitch is a huge help on how they set their shots up - that’s where the skill is once you’ve got a reliable swing. Good luck man 👍
