Played your course yesterday and immediately felt like I was playing a one of my courses. Elysian Downs is actually a departure from my other courses, which typically have tonnes of ground movement. On this one I had to restrain my self from adding contour as I wanted the course to have a flatter low profile appearance. Really loved the way you use the fairway to capture bold landforms. It’s always a blast to bump shots all over the place. Amazing work. Someone said on a VctryLnSprts stream that my contours reminded them of yours, and I'd never seen one of your courses until I played this one, and now I'm cackling maniacally wondering who I tricked into thinking I was this good at the game. Very well done course, and I'm not even a fan of the geometric style, but this one felt really original and less contrived than I've ever seen before. It still doesn't feel natural when I see it, but this one doesn't feel forced either, and it was a really fun course to play.

I moved among the Elysian Fields, which blossomed of beauty did the fairways yield Where the souls of honored individuals go to play, and won`t matter if your ball goes astray A location where nature blooms beautifully all around, to a place where shear beauty is on the ground The Fairways and Greens flower of perfect bliss, do yourself a favour and don`t give this a miss
Sweet perfection mate, quality is long remembered above all else Sand Belt was heaven and so is this
Very well done from Down under

Didn't get a chance to post after playing Friday night, but got to echo a lot of the comments here that this was a well-done MacRaynor rendition. Some may be rolling their eyes at another course in this style, but not me! It's like NGLA & Oakmont had a love child and it became Elysian Downs. That's the best way I can describe it.
You could definitely tell the riffs on the templates, but they seemed to make sense. I'll take the asymmetric Biarritz for the example. You look at the overall grading of the land and you say to yourself, "Yeah, it makes sense that the left side of the hollow is bigger than the right, because it flows w/ the overall feel of the land.
It's a bit of a misnomer to think that template holes are just forced upon a piece of land. Rather, that's one of the things that set MacDonald and Raynor apart, especially when it came to their routing. They adapted the templates to the land they were given, not the other way around. In that vein, I think you nailed it here.

Thanks Mayday. I think the beauty of the templates is seeing how that they can be adapted to different landscapes. The original Redan at North Berwick doesn’t look much like the americanized versions. I’ve played old MacDonald and the templates are very loosely based. They are adapted to a specific landform and not forced. I had originally intended in doing a really buttoned up Raynor style course but that approach started to devolve as I encountered cool landforms on the site that I wanted to incorporate. Besides I’m not meticulous enough to pull off a purely Raynor course. I also see the oakmont reference as well. I was thinking about oakmont a lot early on when I was conceptualizing the overall visual of the course. Vast and open and littered with bunkers of all shapes and sizes. At first I wanted to see the entire course from the clubhouse but then introduced some tree lined holes as a bit of a pallete cleanser. Didn't get a chance to post after playing Friday night, but got to echo a lot of the comments here that this was a well-done MacRaynor rendition. Great job as always. Looks fantastic and hopefully we will stream it live this Friday night in Alt+shot competition. It would be nice though if you could put out just one piece of sh%$ that everyone hates to give the rest of us a chance.

Thanks Rhino, Look forward to watching. Who’s streaming it? Well I wouldn’t say everyone likes my courses either. I think they can be a bit polarizing with the crazy greens and bumpy terrain. Perhaps it’s a good thing not to please everyone. Great job as always. Looks fantastic and hopefully we will stream it live this Friday night in Alt+shot competition. Stately_owl and taff1980 usually have both streams going for each foursome and you can watch them both at same time using multi-twitch. We put the link in the tgctours shout box as well. First tee off is 6pmEST and we play till folks start passing out. 😁

Nice. I’ll see if I can catch a bit of it. I’m terrible at the game so Its always fun to see how the good players play the course.
