Thought it would be fun to create a thread of your favorite bold contours. My new personal mantra is, "No one remembers flat greens." A lot of people who play this game get upset when they see bold contours, and I'm here to say that the designers in this game need to ramp up the contouring a notch, not bring it back. So you can use this thread to show photos of your favorite IRL or TGC19 big, beautiful, mystifying contours, either on the greens or in the fairways. I'll start with the photo that inspired me to create this thread, the Biarritz at Yale. Photo Credit to Riley Johns on twitter:

Looking for inspiration for something? Lol... Here's one of my favorites, same hole, virtually the same location, just a little further forward. This is the 5th at Royal Portrush, cannot WAIT until the Open this year.

This is the 7th hole at Market Drayton, a par 3 with a drop of about 100 feet from tee to green and the green has a large ridge in it.

I feel like I let you down with the swale on hole 18 at Horseshoe falls. I initially wanted it be a few feet deep but I decided not to anger players more than the constant threat of water already had. Instead it's just a little dip. But I agree contours are great when there are clearly defined accessible areas for the pin. However if you put a giant slope 3 yards behind the pin on a front pin location on a 500 yard par 4, I might end my round right there. When executed well, I much prefer the challenge this type of design gives. Looking forward to more pics/inspitation

All I ask is that the contours fit the shot...meaning angle and distance. I don't mind exaggerated contours on greens, but often times I see them used with no thought towards whether or not it fits the hole/approach.
Executed well, they're pretty cool. When stuck in just because, meh...

The current course that gamesdecent and I have going might be the GOAT of bold contours - Sweetens Cove. How about a sideways biarritz on a par 4 with the shelves 4 and 6 feet above the bottom of the swale? Is this any good!?

Mike Strantz was a visionary and a menace when it came to shaping his greens: The 8th at Tobacco Road: The 12th at Tot Hill Farm:

I've played both Tobacco Road and Tot Hill many times. That's the craziest golf you will ever play. I'm a +2.2 handicap in real life, and both of those courses have several "wtf" moments on them.

Truth. My favorite designer, as well. An artist in every sense of the word. My friends in No Laying Up and I might have some #content coming your way next year about the man and his work.......

I guess it's hard with putting the max speed on this course, but these are some of the steeper ones I've designed so far. I think to get Stranz-like greens, you'd have to put the greens speed pretty low in game, in order to keep it on the green while rolling down them, but I hope we get more of them.

Great parkland look here. Love the layering of the bunkers especially in the last pic. Agree on the point about slowing down the greens...that will certainly be our biggest challenge to find the sweet spot for Sweetens because the greens are too severe in places for the physics of this game. I can guarantee that they will still have plenty of zip to them, but you gotta make sure the greens can still hold shots even if they are runners or feed-to-the-pin types of shots.

Holy biarritz! EDIT: Wait, is that 2nd one a biarritz or is that swale in the fairway before the green? Either way, ridiculous. I'm drooling.

It's a swale from memory - the greens themselves aren't that severe - just the links style mounding / hollows etc everywhere else. Same goes for a lot of links style courses in the UK.
