Like my Crystal Downs WIP, I wanted to create a thread for this one to make it officially "real" in my book. This brings my current WIP projects to 4, which I promise to stick to for awhile (Magnolia, Revolution, Crystal Down, Lahinch). This one came about on a whim after watching a video of the course, and in anticipation of next year's Irish Open. For now I am labeling it as a quasi-RCR (EDIT: has since been changed to a true RCR thanks to chadgolf's OpenStreetMaps import tool) due to a lack of detailed elevation and greens information, and I have approached the first 2 holes (holes 2 and 3) with this philosophy in mind, and thus have been very liberal with my measurements. I will likely use a different name when I publish it, but I don't have any original name for it at the moment. Here is an overhead of the hole layout, which may need tweaking here and there as I fit the holes in. I will work on the coastline as I proceed, and I left enough room across the street to add the Castle Course if I feel compelled to. Here is the par 5 second. The green designs are my own and my best guess at how the green would fit into it's surrounds. 3rd Hole Like every hole as I go along, I may tweak the green to something slightly different than what you see now.

Had lined up Lahinch to do once I had signed off on RCD. It's an absolutely fantastic course, only about 30 minutes away from me. Some really iconic holes on the course, can't wait to see the Irish Open being played here in 2019!!

@clv: I absolutely love your courses (RCRs and especially your fictional ones). Thanks so much for adding to the value of the TGC game. Your work is tremendous!
Just a quick question if you care to share: I noticed you're still working on updating Magnolia. Can you comment on what changes you envision making from your original version, and how your interpretation may be similar/different from Royce's version?
Take care.

Thanks bk! I appreciate all plays, but the fictional course ones are harder to get, so I always appreciate those just a little more. In regards to Magnolia, I will likely revive that old WIP thread when I get farther along. I won't comment on Royce's version, but my version in TGC2 is still built off of the course I made in TGC1, back when there was just one water table and no measuring tool. I had a thought that I would never go through the process of fully updating this course with the new TGC2 tools, but after visiting Augusta in spring of 2017 and another impending visit next April, I can't help but go through the full process again. Therefore, the main objective of this update is to correct the elevations to make each hole correct. I am also touching up small measurement errors here and there, and improving texture lines. Lastly, I will be adding more detail around the perimeter due to the increased planting meter. The meter was maxxed out in TGC1, but is currently only at about 1/3 full in TGC2. So far I have done the 11th, 12th, 13th, and the 14th is now done after spending the last 3 days alone on the 14th green. Other than corrections to the back bunkers at 12, most of the work has been on re-elevating the course, and then going back through to fix the details on each hole lost by the elevation changes. It had been so long since my original version that I forgot the extent of my elevation changes to make the 15th and 16th holes possible. Basically I took a few feet from every hole on the course to smooth the transition into those holes and make them look realistic, so essentially I am having to redo the elevation and sculpting on every hole on the course.

So how many courses in the world in your opinion are worth the effort you’re putting into the Magnolia re-work?
My count would be exactly one. 👍🏻

Thanks, CLV. I've not been to Augusta National although I'd love to at some point. Closest I've gotten is driving by the entrance! I've heard watching on television doesn't do justice to the dramatic elevation changes of the course. I can imagine that it is quite a bit of work trying to replicate the elevations on TGC. Thanks again, and perhaps you'll find some new tools in TGC 2019 that you can use to make things even better. Cheers!

Having visited this course several times, you have really nailed it. Even the promenade along the beach looks epic!! Elevations are always going to be hard to get right on a course like lahinch but man does it look good. Looking forward to seeing how the Klondyke & Dell holes look on TGC.
