"The Chicago Golf Club was founded by Charles Blair Macdonald and opened for play in the summer of 1892 in Belmont, Illinois. In the spring of 1894, the club moved to its present site in Wheaton where Macdonald designed the first 18-hole golf course in the United States. Chicago Golf Club is also one of the five founding member clubs of the United States Golf Association. During the early years of the club, it was honored to play host to several USGA Championships. However, Macdonald felt that his original design would not hold up to the advances in the game, and at his suggestion, Seth Raynor redesigned the course in 1923. The present day course includes many of the wonderful holes that Macdonald and Raynor have become famous for: the “Road” 2nd, “Biarritz” 3rd, “Redan” 7th, “Short” 10th, “Punchbowl” 12th, “Eden” 13th, and “Cape” 4th and 14th. The club is proud of its history and contributions to the game of golf and is privileged to once again play host to the Walker Cup Matches in 2005."
I'm pleased to announce the publish of "Chicago Golf Club." It is a project I have had ongoing for quite some time now, and involved by far the most extensive and tedious planning of any course I've built to date. Course routing and dimensions were painstakingly laid out according to overhead satellite imagery and measurements, and general terrain variation across the plot was gathered from basic google earth data. Individual hole and green sculpting and contouring was done - to the best of my ability, based on the resources at hand - in accordance with all pictures, descriptions, graphics, etc. that I was able to find (big thanks to all who pointed me in the direction of some info I hadn't already found). This is as accurate as I feel the course can be portrayed in-game without either 1st hand knowledge or direct information from the course itself in the form of green and/or hole terrain elevation maps. This initial publish will be followed by 2 additional versions in the coming days/weeks: Tour (187 greens) & Championship (187 greens with extended tees on select holes given the sub-7K RCR course yardage). I got the itch to complete this course after seeing a few photos and become enamored with the shapes used to put together the holes, something you don't see in modern architecture. Additionally, the prospect of CGC hosting a future US Open - and with the US Open coming soon - I felt if I were going to build this, now was the time. Thank you again to all who provided sources of information, encouragement, tips, playtesting, etc - greatly appreciate the support and advice I've received on this deep-dive into RCR design. With all that said, I sincerely hope you enjoy your round, and look for the Tour and Championship versions to be published in the near future - hit'em well! note: please excuse the pixelation in these photos, my GPU isn't the strongest, and the game isn't the best at rendering either...which we all know

So, load up the Tour course and start following mcbogga around...come to find out, there's a massively illegal pin on #13 pin 4 - and wouldn't you know it, that was the last pinset I played through before publishing, and it had zero yellow near the hole. I mean...feels like wasted time trying to make the game render these green grids consistently.
Anyway, if you want to play the tougher version, go with "Chicago Golf Club [Tour]" and NOT "Chicago Golf Club (Tour)" - so "[ ]" instead of "( )"
Apologies for the confusion, believe me it's really quite infuriating for me given the amount of time I put in trying to ensure this wasn't an issue. Guess I've got 1 more bracket-style punctuation to go before I run out of options!

Got a chance to play this evening. Honestly not sure what to say except this is really well done.... the course is clean, and is 99.9% accurate with the real one! Though I say that having never been to the course lol.... easy 5 stars and a favorite! Keep it up!

"Chicago Golf Club [Championship]" is now published.
Extended tees, but nothing crazy - didn't take the course from 6900 to 7600 or anything. Bumped the green speeds down to 182, just in case, and every pinset except for 1 will have various different pins depending on the hole. Have fun!

Bumping this thread only to share the video above. This place is a work of art, can't get enough of it.

I keep going past my Chicago GC photo album whenever I pull up my Augusta photos to look at it, and it's definitely a course that has stayed on my mind. I haven't gotten to actually play much golf the last few years, but that's a course that I can actually envision myself playing over and over. Let me just go ahead and file that one under Never Gonna Happen.
When did you actually publish this in TGC 19? I swear it was only like a month ago that I was thinking about this course and wanted to play it, but couldn't find it in the game.

Ditto on the "never gonna happen" bit, despite how much I'd like to.
Published this one in 19 right around a week or two before the last patch. I can't remember the date, but I do know that whatever par 3 tee issue they had, which was fixed with the most recent patch, had the tee on 13 something like 400-500 yards from the green. Took a good bit of time to get this fixed up, but joegolferg said it was his favorite version yet...so I've got that going for me . Only real differences are the bunker colors, which were changed based on what I saw on TV last year, and a lighting adjustment since I've gotten a bit better at that (I think). Go give it a whirl, hope you enjoy.
p.s. That technique you explained to me, back when I was building this, to get the green edges to not be jagged (or at least as much as they can be) by spam-flattening is something that has come in handy ever since, in a huge way. A lot of the sculpting I did on TBC to get the smoothed tier look was done that way, with the super soft brush, so thanks for that!

Awesome job man. Played my first round last night and had a blast. Been waiting for someone to make this course since TGC2019 came out. Was worth the wait, this was one of the best RCRs I've played.

Never played this course on tgc2...
But this course is sick. Played tips pin #1 on default everything. Loved the difficulty.
Greens are top 3 toughest of a RCR I've played. Which is always massive bonus points for me. Feed me the difficulty and torture.
11 birds, 3 bogeys and only 4 pars. Very fun.
Right up there with Merion, Oakmont, etc...where it's very easy off the tee and next thing you know you 3 putt from 15 feet.
Can't slam in the putts here without consequences and there will never be a -18 shot from the tips which makes it a 5 star for me.
Well done!
