Yeah, IDK on this one. TBH a Survivor-type contest just doesn't do much for me, personally. Never got into the show, so a contest based off of, or inspired by, the show doesn't really get me that excited ... And I need to be all-in to commit to one of these. Not fair to myself or anyone else in the comp if I come in and half-arse it.
Could be an interesting concept and I'm glad to see there's plenty of interest, but I'm leaning toward sitting this one out. Of course I reserve the right to change my mind should I see something before May 15 that compels me to reconsider, but that's where my mind's at, given the info we have.
I applaud Eric for coming up with a different spin on the design contest, but not sure it's for me.

I'll have a go. I'm not the best but will do me well teaming up with an experienced designer. Ste owens You'll be on a team with an experienced designer, but you'll have to design your own course. These won't be colab projects, but there will be strategy involved. ;-) That'll do me, can I use a course I've got on the go

I’m not afraid. I just don’t have time for all of these and I don’t like the idea of anyone else controlling my contest destiny. But if that makes me a sissy then I’ll just go and adjust my skirt thanks.

I’m not afraid. I just don’t have time for all of these and I don’t like the idea of anyone else controlling my contest destiny. But if that makes me a sissy then I’ll just go and adjust my skirt thanks. I’m just bantering brother, you know I have nothing but respect for you. If this isn’t for you, that’s no problem, I’m just having fun. You’re a top dog here, we all know that, and it would be great to have top dogs in my contests, but I’m getting the impression that mine are just too silly for the “great” designers. That’s okay, my man @griff will run the Invicta this fall and it will draw the best of the best. I’m okay with that, I hope to be in that too. But the idea behind my contests is to appeal to everybody, to build camaraderie in the design community, to get newer designers noticed, and ideally, to give them a chance to learn from people like you. But if my contests don’t draw the top “names” of this community, I can’t control that. I’m just doing the best I can to create something fun. If it’s serious you enjoy, no big deal, Griff has you covered with his contests. And one last thing... clearly the suspense of the rules is not working. I thought the intrigue would be fun for people, but it seems that guys just want to know everything up front, despite the fact that I have said multiple times: there are NO silly design concepts required, you will NOT be doing a colab with anyone, and you are in FULL CONTROL of your own design. Therefore, from that sense this contest is actually NO DIFFERENT than a Griff contest, because you have one objective... design a GREAT course, and win. I think people will soon be able to see that this isn’t a trick. If you design a fantastic course, you have an excellent shot at winning. Period. I hope we’re good Reeb, I’m just messing around and being creative. No hard feelings on my end bud.

Ok, made it through all 8 pages, and wow - what an interesting concept, pretty neat!
....but having said that, I'm unable to commit to something unless I know the full details of what I'm getting into. I realize it's just about making a course, but for me, it's also important to have a full understanding of what's involved before I feel comfortable giving my word that I'm in and am confident, beyond a doubt, that I'll be able to be able to be completely involved within whatever structure this thing is going to be. Definitely not trying to be a Debbie Downer here because I'm a fan of different ideas like this one, my hesitancy is just a "me" thing - I can't in good conscience completely 100% commit to something as time consuming as building a course from scratch without knowing everything that might affect my interest/commitment/involvement, especially given the fact that "teammates" will be impacted. So yes, I understand the "just build a course, that's all you have to do" thinking, but it just doesn't mesh with the way that I usually make my decisions on involvement in these contests.
So with all of that said, toss me into the maybe category and I'll wait for more details. I'll be building a course once I've completed my DCS entry anyway, so it isn't like I won't already be designing, it's just the fact that I don't like giving my word to you (Eric) and the other "teammates" I may end up with without being 100% confident in what is being asked of me. Looking forward to hearing more about the contest, and am definitely intrigued by what seems to be a pretty interesting contest structure!

B.Smooth13 - I can respect that Justin, thanks for the well-articulated response. I would definitely enjoy having you in the contest! After much thought about it this week, I have decided that I will reveal the FULL contest details this weekend. Although the mystery of the rules was supposed to be intriguing and draw people in, I think it’s also having the opposite effect of keeping people out. Therefore I will lay everything out in the OP this weekend and there will be no more doubt as to what I’m conjuring up here. I genuinely think that a majority of people will think it sounds fun. Of course, once I lay out all the rules, then I DEFINITELY reserve the right to call you a sissy if you’re scared to risk your design cred. 😜🤣😉

It's pretty funny that so far 62.5% of the votes in the poll are that "Eric has no idea what he's doing," and 25% of the votes are for "Eric DOES know what he's doing, and I don't like it."
That means that 87.5% of the people responding have a negative impression of this contest. Maybe I should reconsider running this. Haha

whoa take it easy only 8 people voted all together and I was one of the 5 that voted eric has no idea what he's doing. I'm already entered so I'm not really afraid of it but the only thing that worried me about the mystery of it all was that it might not be 100% thought out and that participants will get frustrated during the contest.
That's what I meant I was afraid of... not to say I don't think it is thought out or that you have no idea what you are doing. I'm pretty confident your plan is awesome. So in that sense it was not supposed to be a negative vote! Just stating the one thing that initially had me slightly concerned... that perhaps you did not know the gravity of what you were getting yourself into by withholding contest details.
