So I've had it with the powers that be over at the HBS forums so I am moving my WIP thread over here. I've decided that it's not worth porting my TGC1 legacy version of this course over to TGC2, just can't give it the proper justice it deserves (don't particularly feel like putting lipstick on a pig) and start from scratch in TGC2. I've learned a lot having now completed two full RCR courses (Oakland Hills South in TGC1) and Augusta National, plus having completely mapped out Pine Valley. Some of the angles between holes on my original version just weren't quite right, especially the interaction between the 18th tee and 10th fairway. I've been working at a relatively slow pace but was able to put in some more time on this the past week since the weather has turned for the worse here in the north and can't go fishing or play golf any more, so time to get to the serious work on this. Thanks to a kind lad who played here in the 2016 US Amateur and provided me the official USGA guide book I have much more detailed green break info now, allowing me to recreate this much quicker and more accurately! Front 9 mapped out with all fairway, green, bunker and tee textures laid. Cheers, Royce

Decided to start the back 9 with the 11th, went quicker than expected. Next I will map out the 10th and 18th to complete the southeast corner of the course. Lot's of activity in this area of the course with 11 green, 8 green, 9 & 12 tees and 1 fairway. I spent a lot of time here for the US Am with something going on everywhere you look and one of the coolest green complexes in all of golf IMO.

So you lay out everything flat and then add the elevations? Looking good.

So you lay out everything flat and then add the elevations? Looking good. Yep the only way to accurately map everything out and get the textures to lay down cleanly (in my experience) is to work with a completely flat, bare plot. Once all 18 holes are mapped and laid out I will add the cart paths and start rough elevating then sculpting. Last is the planting as its much easier to sculpt without having to deal with any shadows. Learned this the hard way the first time I did this course in TCG1, never will make that mistake again!

Finished the 14th this morning. Amazing how much quicker this goes doing it a second time, along with laying out the holes in order of location instead of sequentially.....haven't had to deal with boxing myself in at all so far. As I mapped out 14 I was able to slightly reposition 13, 12 & 15. Only 6 holes left, 2 of which are par 3's! 14th was easy with a very straight forward fw and only 3 bunkers, including the most completely useless fw bunker on the course. Never understood the reason for the left fw bunker sitting 9 yards off the fw itself, not sure how anyone could ever end up here.

One of the best courses on Tgc1 . Can't wait to see it and play it on the X!

I made some more progress the last few days finishing up the par 3 13th and par 5 12th. Long par 5 with some of the most dramatic bunkering on the course. One of my favorite green complexes on the course. The signature 16th hole is next with the pond next to 12 fw making for a great reference point.

Here's the 16th, considered the signature hole, a shortish par 4 with water in play and a difficult green guarded by bunkers in the back. Just 15, 17 & 18 left to do.

I got the 17th laid down and started playing around with laying some cart path. Amazing really how confined everything is here, tee boxes and greens are always in close proximity, can't wait to start sculpting this so the open, parkland views start to develop. Par 4 15th sitting at the south end of the property....now I can start to add the exterior roads in where appropriate. On to the last hole now then time to add cart paths, roads and start elevating!

Finished up 18 and also got all the internal cart paths in and exterior roads. Just need to lay down the fescue areas and then it's time to start elevating! It looks so much more polished with the paths all there. Google Earth view for comparison
