I would have had a -7 except for a +10 on #9 for being stupid and trying to get to the green. After coming up short by a yard I moved to the right to hit the fair way and drove the ball to the left nd hit the cliff again. Moved MORE right and REALLY sliced a. . and hit the cliff for the 3rd time.
Finally took the 3W and drove the green and 2 putted . . .+10 F*CK!

Finally broke par on this course. Granted it was a 70, but I had it going early only to get in trouble with some bad chips and a questionable hole location on 15 (I think it was - hole on top of a mound). As for the ninth. In the third round I hit 2H but pushed it just a tad into the rough just right of the green. A bad chip and two putts later I had a five. 20 feet away in 2 and got a five.

- hole on top of a mound... Really? I haven't teed off yet in this tournament, but seriously? Who the "F" designs like that anymore? I'll have to see it for myself when I get to it, but if it's like a 6' diameter table on top of a mound, well then it shouldn't have been approved imo...

No one can finish a course without at least one or two questionable pins. I playtest all of my hole locations and tees, and if I can shoot an acceptable score I figure the course is fair. There is a fine line between challenging and fair, and an unfair goat@#$!@. This course falls in the tough but fair category. Sure there are a few things that bother me on some holes, but overall it's totally fair. Just tough.
As a player, though, it is frustrating to shoot five or six strokes over what I normally shoot. The first instinct is to blame the course. I can almost guarantee that if any of us played more than one practice round (or one per pin), we would have a totally different attitude about any given course.
I'm just holding my breath until Pelican. I went really low there in another event last season.

Putting is hard here, I missed about 60% of the putts from inside 10 feet, ended up -2 after 1.
Could have been -6 easily, also had a double on 3.

So after getting very fed up in practice rounds and seeing the difficulty others were having, I decided to just say @!$# it and do the first official round. In practice my winds were wild sometimes at 17mph, but in that first round I had almost no wind. It was amazing. Round 3 had a little more difficult wind, but the pin placements were better suited to manipulate shots with the wind. After being extremely frustrated in practice (usually getting around 74), I surprised myself immensely in the official rounds.
So far I have a 64,64,63 (should have had a 62 on round 2 but I hit it into the water on hole 17 by accident). We'll see how round 4 treats me.

So Round 4 winds are definitely probably the most favorable (in terms of direction). I amazed myself again as I managed a -7 on the front 9 with my chipping game netting me 4 of those birdies. The back 9 gave me a bit more trouble with slopes on the greens, so I only managed a piss poor -4 (haha)! So I finished with 64,64,63,60 for a total of -33. Hopefully that puts me in a pretty good contention for 1st or 2nd! These were my best rounds ever!

Numbers don't lie and they do tell a story. In my case, a comedy. 72-72-70-65 It was the most effortless 65 also. Everything went in. Putter was on fire. Imagine all four rounds at 65-67. It's infuriating to do that. lol

Violinguy69 - I really liked this course EXCEPT for #9 and the 92% fairways making it impossible for Player clubs to make the green and it's actually deceiving without knowing the fairways can be 92%. You are tricked into believing you can hit your 3W 245 yards like 99% of other courses but will come up 2 yards shot and wonder what went wrong. 10, 10, 4, 8 in for rounds LOL then I saw the issue.
Took me 4 rounds to figure it out. OTHERWISE - well done. I had no issues with the greens.

Since you mentioned the 92% the other day Rod, I've checked several of my 3 woods on other course - and all of them have been 93-100% as the lie on fairways. So it's clearly pretty standard for the 3 wood...

What determines this.

This weeks course seems a lot more receptive. Practice round -8, including my first TGC2 hole in one!
Although I did land about 4 yards from one hole with a GW, and it back spun just a touch and ended up 25 yards back, off the green. That was just about the only tricky one I saw.
